cleaned air filter = idle problems

So I cleaned my works dropin air filter today with their cleaner and oil using their directions and now I am having some idle issues. When the car is still all is well but when coasting the revs will bounce off 1k and settle at about 1600. Thats when the clutch is not depressed. when the clutch is depressed then it will sit there and bounce back and forth between 1k and 1600. Its just super annoying. Any ideas what could be happening? Should I get a new filter and maybe clean the mas?

did you possibly over oil the filter causing it to coat your mass air sensor i would try wiping the mass air sensor element off carefully

They say you should really wait 24hr "just to be safe" after cleaning to put a clean oiled filter back in but yea wipe down your mass air sensor and make sure you plug in the mass senor nice and tight because that can cause the same problem too.

After I cleaned my air filter I drove the car some and then came back and sprayed the sensor down with MAF cleaner to get all the oil off of it.

All is well now. I got in car to go pick up some cleaner and all idle problems had vanished. Maybe it just took a little time for the car to to get used to an unblocked filter again. It was pretty dirty lots of bugs and leaves. Maybe I shoundnt wait an entire year before cleaning next time

Glad that contact cleaner worked out for you, woulda sucked if you had to buy a new MAF sensor.

It still could have been the sensor and the problem 'fixed itself' when it drip dried

I've had the same problem a couple times now after installing my new HKS air filter. It' seems to "self-correct" after letting the car idle in the driveway with the A/C on for 5 minutes or so.

There is and idle learning process that involves letting the car sit for 10 minutes idle right after changing your air filter. Are you guys following this procedure when cleaning/changing your filter? If you just change it and drive, then yeah, you're gonna have problems.

I remember reading a post describing the official Mitsubishi ECU idle learning procedure, but I can't find it now.
