Rough Idle fixed

2 weeks ago in got my oil changed at the dealership. My 2009 evo x gsr has 20,000 miles on it. The service advisor suggested that I replace my air cleaner. It did look pretty dirty so for 14.00 it seemed like a good thing to do. Ever since then when the car is at temp I get inconsistant idle RPM's. When they put the new air cleaner they didnt put the factory air box back together correctly. the bottom pins were not hooked in the top of the air box. I guess im describing it poorly. But Im posting this because i have read a lot of rough ide posts. The has cured the problem. So check your air box

I actually had to take the whole thing out to get it to clip back in. It really is a paid in the ***. But I would think a Mitsu tech should have done it right

Gotta ask...how do you have a 2009 X? Considering 09's weren't released.

Yeah the airbox is a pita. You gotta put it together before putting the filter in.

if the bottom clips are not in you can still clip in the top. this has been a problem with lancer owners claiming an "increase in noise" "sounds like a short ram intake" when they replace their filter with a K&n and unknowingly replace it incorrectly and the bottom clips arent in place. causing the airbox to sound louder . once the clips are in the right spot the sound goes away back to normal.

yea I got a 2008. And from the top it looked fine. The 2 metal clips were in fine. but from the bottom there was an air leak where the back plactic tabbies go in. So the air that was comming in was unfiltered. I also think it cause the MAF sensor to act funny due to unusual air flow .. hence the rough idle

Werd, the design is a pita and very easy to get it put back together with a nice open air gap on the bottom side. I have a feeling many of the people with stalling problems after the factory reflash.. it's probably due to this exact issue.

Ronin: Great post! The very 1st thing I did was install a K&N after break in.I do recall having to check and "F" with those bottom clips. I don't know how many times I checked them over and over (almost compulsive) and still don't fell 100% I have them right,I did have my girl reach her hand underneath to verify. She said they felt together,so tight under it.

I am glad that I am not the only one that freaked out over this.
