Broken hood latch! :(

so i when for a ride up the Azusa mountains !! ****ing car feels AMAZING!!! i have never driving a car this GOOD up there!! and I took my old IX MR!! but this X is something ELSE!!! anyways I got all the way up to the mountain tried opening my HOOD **** would not OPEN!!! finally got it to open....so I'm like kool maybe it's nothing so next day "TODAY" wake up for work ready to leave I decide I wanna open my hood freaking **** WOULD NOT OPEN!!! arhhhhhhh ...then I broke the PLASTIC hood latch, button whatever it is!!... so i'm now pissed...and was wondering if u guys have had this trouble...issues etc. u think stealership will fix it for FREE? cost ? etc.... please

yea i herd of this, there is a tsb for it. Bring it to the stealership they will fix it for free. The cable kinks or something.

Yeah there's a thread about this, there is a tsb and Mitsubishi should fix it under warranty...

i just broke mine 3 days ago. sucks. the dealership should fix it for free.

bad luck
bring it to the stealership
they will fix it
its their mechanical fault, i presume

My car was in the dealer on jan 2008 for the same problem. (Three times actually.)

They replaced the plastic latch part. Then the actual latch mech in the engine bay. Then the cable.

All good now.

Hmm, Japan had a recall on all hood latch cables early this year. I wonder if the US has the modified version. The replacement cable has a rubber cover over it in the engine bay side to prevent water from entering the cable. They said that the cause of the stiffness in the latch was due to water entering the cable causing corrosion. This stiffness caused the latch to break or the cable to snap.

Here's some pics:

This is the letter we all received in Japan stating the recall:


This is the old cable without the rubber cap:


And this is the new cable with the rubber cap on it:

Mine never broke, but it was always very difficult to pull. I complained to the dealer and they gave me a new cable. All is well now.

pb blaster will eat it up! LOL Good way to get it fixed now rather than later.

mine is hard to open also
PB Blaster is a lubricant, kinda like WD40

I think the JDM cable is different since the latch is on the other side, so that part number wont do you any good.

yeah man, this happens to me my hood is hard to open sometimes, sometimes it works the other times it doesnt. im afraid im gonna tear the whole thing out.
