can't be right
Ok guys, I've wanted an evo for years, but had just about resigned myself to the RA or WRX as there is no way I can afford a 30k vehicle. So I thought I'd do a search for the heck of it seeing there seems to be a lot of sales lately. I found a new 2008 Evo X for 23.7k and another one in for just over 24k. I thought this can't be right and checked their website, but sure enough that's what it says. I'm wondering what the catch is. They do say used in the listing, but in the description it says "why buy used?" one has 58 miles and the other 452. but, it also says price reflects 3k cash/trade down equity. I bet that's the catch, but if it is that's no way to list the price. What do you guys think? Still a little pricey for me as I have almost no equity in my car, but if that's the true price I will find a way to make the payments...

Add on the $3k and that seems about right if its a GSR base model. People are paying around $29-30k for full SSS+Aero kits.
How Much for a new X / Is this a good deal? *Sticky/Merge* (Includes EvoM vendors)

Yeah, I figured that was the catch. That kind of advertising is a little misleading though. I mean how do they know how much equity or cash you have? So it looks like around 27k for the base in silver or black. The red one must be the SSS as its 3k more. I guess I could call tomorrow to verify the prices as their website does'nt show them, but they are still in autotrader. If the prices are legit, they probably won't last long. But they must have been sitting on the lots for awhile. Too bad they don't have any RA's with that kind of discount because I really don't want to go much over 20-21k right now unless I stretched the payments out longer than 72 months and I know that's usually not a good idea. But then again, if I were to get an evo I would most likely keep it for a very long time. I would then just have to hope the rumors of high maintenance costs and insurance were'nt correct...
BTW, anybody know a good place to try to sell my 2004 Spec-V? I tried craigslist with no success. Its a pretty good little car, just needs some tires.

I just bought a used GSR SSS with 4k miles for 24k. I also looked at a GSR SSS AERO with 15k miles, but he wanted 25k. So, if you don't mind a few miles you can still get an X pretty reasonably. It's just going to have things happen to it, even if you get new.

well, i hope you know that OTD price is different from the rates you are looking for. Even the evo actually is sold for 23.7, the OTD price will still be around 27000 which is still a killer deal, but I have never seen evo x has gone for so low. 30k otd is generally the "good price" people are paying for. Think about what you are really getting, an OTD price for an RA is a lot more than 20-21k. Anyway, according to my personal experience, DO NOT GET FOOLED BY FALSE ADVERTISEMENTS. Dealers are there to make money, not to be a beneficiary.
By the way, if you are pushing to buy something that will force you to "make the money"
I don't really think you can finish paying it. Usually car payments last for 36 months to 72 months depend on your personal preference and financial status, but since you said you are "pushing it, " again it's a experience of knowning people that do that, they usually couldn't pay it and ended up bank took the car away. Credit score went to hell. Good luck man.
In addition the insurance is going to vary depends on your age and record. For me, the insurance went up a lot and I am 27 years old with spotless record. Read up on how much other people have to pay and how much to maintain. I have to pay about 800 dollars a month for gas/insurance/payment. I drive more or less than 1000 miles a month and all of them are highway driving. Again, good luck on making the right choice, car payments can haunt you for a while. You can always wait for it.

I hear what your saying. I meant sticker of 20-21k and realize that OTD will be 2-3k more than that. If I could just find a decent car (out of the ones I'm looking for) for around that price with low financing and I can get a little something out of my car, I should be all set. It looks like I may have to keep my current car and pay it down for another 6 months or so or even pay it off to get some decent equity. They only want to give me bet 4-5k for it even though KBB says its worth 6.5k in good shape in trade in and private buyer value is like 8-9k and I still owe almost 5k on it.

You can't expect to get a really low price or massive discounts on the new car you buy, without having to sacrifice on your trade... that's how dealers "equalize" when OTD figures are calculated. There are deals to be had right now due to the economy, but that also means actual values on trades are way below what KBB tells you. Today, only cash talks and is the only thing that can seal real "deals".

Yeah, I think I kind of figured that out this week. All the dealers had some kind of way of "adding cost" to the price and almost none of them were willing to show you the numbers or rates they were using. They just try to figure out how high your willing to go and then try to add a little on top of that. I thought I would just go in with the attitude that I don't "need" a car (which I don't) and just try to find a good deal if there were any. They all just want to rip you off. I guess I'll either have to pay my car off or try to sell it myself. Which I don't really want to do because you have to pay for advertising and have strangers come to your house and then they will want to test drive and you don't know if they are serious or not. Then if I do sell it, I will need a way to get to the dealership to get a new car and since I live alone and will have no way to get there unless I ask my parents and they live in another town.

man... are you serious about trading in your car that is not paid off (5k ) and the car itself is worth less than 10k? It is a baaaad idea to get a car right now man, unless you have some cash to pay as downpayments.

its the incentives. its like 24k with the mitsu factory incentive but ur paying 6.4% apr. add the incentive which i dont kno, im guessing its 3k? then ur at 27k at 0% apr for 60 month. thats what im talkin bout

I thought it was a good time with all the discounts and low financing that some places offer. I do wish my car was paid off though, that would make it easier. Thinking back, I guess that has always been my problem, never having a good trade except for my first new car over 10 years ago. I bought a house, traded in and took a hit, got a bad lease deal that wasted 5 years, then bought some POS used cars. I guess I just need some patience to pay this thing off or at least down some more. What sucks is its gonna need new tires before winter and I don't want to put any more in it. I already put about 2k in it for my I/H/E when I first got it and the new brakes and pads recently. Oh, and also the aftermarket wheels that are starting to rust now. It just does'nt pay to mod unless they are'nt that expensive and your planning on keeping it for a long time...

hate to sound like this but your better off waiting to get an evo then bro. wait it out until your car is paid off, then the evo can be your weekend car and stuff, you wont put any miles on it compared to othe people and it will keep its value in the long run. evo ix are still worth like 25k to date.

Yeah, I definitely better wait or look into the RA, but those are even hard to find in my area. Since this will be my DD, the RA will most likely be the better choice too for somebody on a budget. btw, the dealer finally e-mailed me and said those two cars are sold and there are no base Evos left on the East coast. There are some with the SSS at a decent price it looks like, but still a little out of my range...
