Same tips you would follow for any car. No jack rabbit starts. Accelerate smoothly. Get into the highest gear possible when cruising. Don't floor it. Come to a stop smoothly. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
And, specific to turbo-charged cars, stay out of boost.

In my VIII, (im sure gearing is very similar) I go 2nd 4th 5th or depending on speeds 1st 3rd 5th, i'm in 5th if its not an uphill at 35mph. And as allways stay in the vaccum.

evo x is factory tuned rich (lotsa wasted gas) so certain tunes will actually improve your mpg.

I shift before I hit 3k and get the rpm constant once I hit the speed limit for the road. If that's not possible, accelerate like a turtle and brake like smoothly like what adambl03 said. Don't worry if you get honked at. It's your money paying for your gas not theirs.

Downshift instead of brake, let the engine slow it's self down instead of the breaks... Read your owners manual and it tells you when you should shift. I shift around 3400 to 3500 rpm, anything below that and the turbo looses spool and your shifts get jerkier! The factory tune like Noize has stated many times, is terrible!

Its not about the rpm when you get into boost that makes it spool, its how wide the throttle is open, you can be at redline in 1st gear just crusing at 35mph off the boost. Just drive with like less than 15% thottle.
Loosing boost has nothing to do with jerky shifts just the driver not compensating to the reverse build up in the driveline.
BTW what are you guys getting per tankfull on petrol? im getting around 170 when the light comes on. Also anyone running e85 on relitavely stock setup? I'm thinking about making the switch when I get my t case back but I don't want to get 120miles per tank, theres not a lot of ethanol places here.
