I once put a clutch in a front wheel drive n/a 3000gt and got to take it for a long drive afterword/ borrowed it for a day. It was a cool cruiser, but that was like in 1999 and I had a truck back then. I'd probably laugh now, but I'd consider one if I could find a clean twin cam 220hp n/a.

man, mitsu sure made some small transmissions and clutches back in the 90's..It's about the only make I never had to ask for a hand to lift the transmission back into place on.

For the street and long sweepers, the 3000 gt would feel good, but once pushing it with the brakes/switchbacks on a road course, that's where you would feel the difference.

It might improve the turning radius though lol. I just want it for the "shock and awe factor"!

The turning radius on the vr-4 was nothing to write home about.

I was and still am a big fan of 3000GT's (GTO's). I'd love to own one still but hearing about these reliability issues, that is very much in doubt.

What was the specs on a 3000GT VR-4 MR edition? It would be rather nice to see a newly redesigned 3000GT with EVO X suspension and gadgetry, mated to a TT 6, or they could make a two door version of the EVO and have it badged as an Eclipse. As far as handling goes, I believe the X is Mitsubishi's finest, however I can't but notice the 3000GT was a serious performer for it's time much like the EVO's of today.

P.S. So what your saying is, you had to launch from a dig to exceed 15 mph in tight areas to have a sharper turning circle? JK, would be funny to see though.

4 wheel steering was just one-upmanship in japan for gadgetry. Honda had it, so everybody else jumped on that bandwagon because it was perceived as less tech if you didn't have what the competition had. Nevermind that it added weight and made the car steer in the most awkward, unintuitive way.

these days torque vectoring and stability control/braking modulation is where it is at.

The 4100 pound curb weight on a 2dr, v6 was just too much to make it a real contender against a vette, supra or rx-7. I have fond memories of that car though.

It's not designed for tighter turning radius, but for better handling. IIRC the wheels turned in phase front and back and had a minimum speed threshold like someone said earlier. Most manufacturers seem to have given up on the idea as I remember Nissan doing it on the 300ZX and Honda did it on the Prelude. The only company that did it for tighter opposite phase turning was GM with Quadrasteer on some 2500 or 3500 trucks, but they stopped offering it as well. (I think one of the others was opposite phase below a certain speed, then in phase at a higher speed, but I don't remember who's)

You are already getting the best Mitsubishi has to offer in the Evo right now. There's nothing they can do to improve it until they bring out the Evo XI and it won't have any elements from any prior car, especially not a heavy GT like the 3000GT which was mainly built to showcase Mitsu's technology by throwing every thing possible at it. Sometimes less is more and the Evo doesn't need anything like Active Aero, four wheel steering, cockipit adjustable strut valving, cockpit adjustable exhaust baffling, etc.

The MR version never offered here, DELETED these things in an attempt to make the 3000GT lighter so that it COULD compete with Skylines, FDs, Fairladies and Supras.

I used to own a 97 vr4 and I got a lot of problems like leaking tranfer case. But it was a fast car.
