If a VR-4 was modified very much it would have gave your X a fight (if your stock). Their a little dated but don't get the idea you can push them around, the X is quick but will loose to more than a handful of cars in a straight line!

It was very possible that this particular VR4 that he raced was only a N/A 3000gt. They look pretty much identical and for every VR4 I see, I see a dozen N/A's at least. They are becoming so rare they are almost non-existent at this point! Man, I wish I could have afforded to keep my car!!

I believe you two are talking about two different cars:

3000GT VR-4 and Galant VR-4

+1

I had a chance to race a VR4 at a strip that was making about 390 whp. I was making 350 at the time.

I will say, either im a great driver - which I know im not....

or

he is the worst driver - which I know he is better than average

it wasn't much of a race... the cars or just un godly heavily and they have too much crap that can go wrong with them. I would never have the desire to own one.

cool looking cars for the time but I think I would really opt for the older gallant vr4

I also want to see the VR4 that is making 400 whp with $7k?! how is this possible...

maybe i am really wrong but I know it costs a lot to see a vr4 go fast...

I think people have different terms of fast, to me the VR-4 is still fast, it may no longer be current but the 0-60 times and 1/2 mile times are legitimate especially for it's time. I just purchased a 87 Starquest TSi, in stock form I'm running 7.0 to 7.2 0-60 and a stock X runs anywhere from 4.8 to 5.5 (if the driver knows what he's doing), with under 1500 dollars I could hang with a stock X. I may not come out on top but it would be a dog fight. I honestly think a VR-4 3000 GT could hang with an X for less than 7K! I believe some of you guys need to get your facts straight, the 1999 VR-4 did 0-60 in 5.5 and 1/2 mile in 13.9, thats not too much slower than an X, regardless of weight to HP ratios.

P.S. The X is no drag strip car, however the X would spank all these cars at the track, hands down!

I have been racing these rice rockets since 1996. Im fully aware if it was an NA vs a TT. This car was definately a VR4 3000GT sporting a custom (but ghetto) catback. I would definitely base the win on driving skills. He shifted so slow that every time he changed gears, my X would jump up 4-5 feet in front.

I was "jam slappin the bass man!"

VR4 owners shouldnt get mad at me here. He was the one that lined up and egged me for the race. He got what he deserved. (an a** whooping) And yes, my Evo X is bone stock. The only mod it has is the skid marks I leave on the seat from my mean farts..

Of the 90s Japanese import scene, the VR4 rarely even gets mentioned. It was a distant 4th to the likes of the Supra, Nissan 300Z, and Mazda Rx7.

If you want to go with a classic JDM look, I would suggest getting a 93-95 RX7 with a V8 LS1 conversion. Its timeless.

I spent about a grand when I rebuilt the motor and the rest on interior/random stuff.

Total right around 7k for everything. Still need to repaint exterior because I went with a 97 front bumper and in the process of custom head light covers. Another 150 for finishing the new intercooler pipes and a few little things here and there to finish her up.

Now, I have not dynod the car so this is just a figure based on other builds such as this one.

Toyota has a monster PR machine, and has made some good cars. But that doesn't mean everything they have produced is gold. Mitsubishi has made some good cars, made some spectacular blunders and they don't have a good reputation in this country. All I am talking about is the DSM and the Alltrac, not how high a Camry scores on JD Powers or the resale value of a Lexus RX330. None of that matters. We'll see what happens to Toyota's resale as they go through this nightmare of rusty pickup truck frames and unintended acceleration. And you'll see that part of what goes into the resale value of a car is not just how its built but also the whims of the fickle car buying public and the press.

At one time the Ford Escort was the best selling car in the US, for several years running. By your logic they should also be 1000+hp and 9, 8, 7 and 6 second examples. But they're not. So another low selling expensive Toyota like the MKIV TT should NOT have as much aftermarket support because they are expensive and not many were made, but they do and are the most dominate of the Japan GTs in this country. So which is it? Your logic is not sound. The DSM is better then the All-trac because it is a better platform and a much stronger engine. You don't have to throw a lot of parts at a 4G63 to get good power. You have to do a lot to a 3SGTE to get modest power out of it because its like paper mache and blasa wood compared to the stout 4G63. There are countries where the All-trac is present where DSMs weren't even sold, but still none of those imported parts or knowledge have made the All-trac even a threat to all the fast Mitsus in this country. And in those other country's Evos go faster then Alltracs. I think the fastest one I've ever heard of around here is just now into the 9s. And even though DSMS sold better then Alltracs, the number of turbo DSMs still pales in comparison to the Camaro or Mustang, another poor analogy. Ten years worth of turbo DSMs and each year produced only about 20% at peak was a turbo, the rest N/As. If you want to see a high dollar cousin to the DSM, look up Galant VR-4 prices, only 3000 were made and even though they are virtually the same car but a little heavier they will command 2-3 times the price of a GSX because they ARE RARE.

I don't rally and don't know much about it, obviously you do. To say you don't care about the street performance of the DSM which is obviously where it has most of accomplishments is rather childsih. I might say I don't really care much about Tiger Woods golf achievements and say he's not much of an athlete. Mitsu did not campaign the DSM (Eclipse, Talon Laser) in WRC and the GVR-4 was replaced by the Evo. Maybe you should have said the Alltrac is a better rally car then the DSM. I would have accepted that as probable.

You are welcome to your opinion, but to say its better because it has an inflated resale value and a better engine are false statements. Plus using half million dollar WRC cars that didn't even use 3SGTEs to power them doesn't back up your statement either, but weakens it. Mitsubishi at least used production based 4G63s in their WRC efforts with the GVR-4 and the Evo.

Thanks.
Alltrac is still better two years later bahahahahahahahaha
