dealer to fix rattling?

should i even waste my time making a service appointment to go get the rattling looked at? has anyone had success with the dealer fizing this issue? in the cold weather it got worse.

now it's warming up again and the buzzing and rattling isn't going away. listening to talk radio at moderate volume will buzz the passenger door. if i press on the edge where the glossy fake CF trim meets the rest of the door the buzzing stops. also, there's a rattling/buzz coming from driver side seatbelt area too. my dash is starting up a tiny buzzing noise when i let off the gas in 1st or 2nd gear. this is getting really annoying. with music i don't notice it as much because there's constant noise, but with talk radio everytime a male voice comes on all hell breaks loose.

car's only 9months old 12,000km. 2008 MR bone stock.

It is an EVO. Rattles are unfortunately part of the deal you get when you buy the car. It's so stiff it is bound to happen.

I know you got the MR, but it is still an Evo. You could try the dealer but don't be surprised if they look at you like a crazy person. Then again I see the point where you paid a lot for the car and don't want it to rattle. Give it a shot and take it in.

I know my dash rattles. Evo X GSR with 5K miles on the clock. I just live with it. This is my 3rd evo though so I just expect it anymore I guess.

Did you not think it would rattle when you bought it? Just about every single "what I don't like about my evo thread" says it's a rattlebox. Only way I could see fixing some of the rattling would be to add sound dampening and that adds weight.

 I have that EXACT same door rattle. I've tried stuffing rags behind the panel but that didnt work, so i think i'm gonna take the whole thing out and start taping seams.

I had the dash rattle and the dealer fixed it with foam.

I wonder whether anyone has tried to add Dynamat in the right places to see whether the vibration and rattling occurrence would decrease. I notice the rattles when I first drive the car in the morning and over rough, uneven surfaces. The symptoms are inherent in the vehicle; although the symptoms exist, the car itself continues to make up for it through its performance capacity.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the TSB for the loose window mounting screws.

Agree with everyone.
This car is a rattlebox. That’s what you get with a hard suspension, a unibody rigid frame and cheap plastic parts joined with no foam or rubber strips around. Even the cd player jumps a lot in the street.
I have no interest in fix it. It reminds me that I’m driving an evo.

Surprised they let this problem be so prevalent. The whole marketing angle for the X was to be more refined than the IX. To me nothing yells cheap like something that sounds like its vibrating itself apart. /shrug

P.S. My IX doesnt rattle.

If you drive it as often as you post, I find your story believable.

It doesn't, I took it all apart and here is what causes it.

(oh, and you don't need to take the door panel off for this, come to find out)

-the grey trim piece is held to the panel with clips, and the right end of it has a one inch tab that slides back under the door panel. I immediately broke this off

-the rattle itself is the trim flexing and tapping against the door itself. I pried the trim back enough to reach the clips with a small flathead from underneath the trim strip
-push up on the clip and it will pop off. It will also break that tab off if you didn't undo the entire strip starting from the left hand side. FWIW that tab makes no difference
-slide something in between the trim and the plastic door panel. I put a piece of duct tape in there, you could use two sided tape or something
-the rattle in my car was from the area between the two clips on the right hand side of the trim
-snap the piece back in, good to go

How thick was this "piece of duct tape" ? I'm thinking it'd have to be pretty sizable to stock the rattling... Care to take a picture?
