Short Shifters void warranty?

Can anyone please tell me if they have a short shifter on their evo X and got denied warranty repair because of it. I am planning on putting one on my 2010 X, but I might wait to throw it on when i put my bolt on parts later down the road if its going to void warranty. Thanks alot.

it cant technically void your warranty, no modifications can. Mitsubishi will however use any modification to your car as a basis to not honoring your warranty to fix a specific problem, saying the mod caused whatever problem you are having. so to be safe i would say hold off on it if you are that worried about it.

Just another option... I just took my stock shifter and cut it down and re-threaded it

If you're worried about warranty, you chose the wrong car brand...

Actually it can. Shortening the throw of the shift puts more stress on the shifter cables which are tensioned from the short shifter in the first place... I'm sure there's about 50 other reasons that a dealer can connect to a short shifter... In other words - modding your car in any other way than looks, they'll ***** about it when something dies... They wanted to void my warranty for having a turbo timer but I flipped out at the manager if he's mentally challenged trying to void warranty for a mod that helps keep the car in good condition. After 10 minutes of arguing he asked me what does it actually do... So go figure.

your good on your warranty, but if say something were to go wrong with the forks down the road they could say it was a cause of the SS, you know how they roll lol keep your old stuff just in case. its not that hard to switch out!

They will use anything to deny your claim. Just keep the old parts and swap them back out. yeah its a pain but its worth it if you can get stuff covered.

just use the SS until something breaks then put ur stock shifter back on and act like you never had a SS. Lying is bad but we all know how dealerships are...

First off, not all dealers are created equal. Some are better about covering repairs than others. That being said, why not contact your local dealer and ask the service manager? Maybe even ask him to send you an email so you have written proof? None of the doods here are going to be able to tell you what you want to know because it is shop specific.

Technically not true.

They can annotate that your vehicle (kept track by use of VIN) came in for service on xx-xx-xxxx date and it was noted that you had a cat-back exhaust, short-throw shifter and painted your PS cooling line black.

None of these can void your warranty, and that's a fact.

However, later on down the road you bring in your car because your power steering shat itself. Even if you scrape off the plasti-dip or whatever you used to black out your power steering cooling loop so it's not visible through the front grill, they'll say you negatively affected the cooling properties of the power steering fluid system, causing an overheating condition which caused the problem you're bringing the car in for warranty work to cover.

This is the same stuff MR_Lance said btw

I have a WORKS short shifter on my 08. Toke it to the dealership for a daytime running light. They fixed it for free. Like stated before, they have to prove the mod caused the problem.

my dealership doesnt care at all  they will warranty anything

when they first got the Evo 8's, they put aftermarket parts on it themselves. My buddy just had his tranny rebuilt, and he brought them and Exxedy clutch and they threw it in for him no charge when they put the tranny back in

they can't void your warranty unless they can prove the SS damage your drivetrain.. which is very unlikely since it is just a shorter metal stick w/ altered pivot point.
