HID conversion

All evos have projector housings (lenses over the low beam bulbs), so im not really sure what youre talking about. That goes for VIIIs, IXs, and Xs. Most people dont put an hid bulb in the high beak spot (the reflector part of the housing). I have an 05 VIII with an hid conversion. I used a 55w 6k kit from DDM tuning. My OEM halogen projector lenses work perfectly form them. The light output is great and the cut off is nice and sharp; just about upper bumper level on most vehicles in front of me. My kit came out to about 80 bucks shipped. They come with nice sealed waterproof ballast housings and connections so you dont have to worry about where you mount them. Dont listen to guys like this who dont know what theyre talking about. Save yourself some cash and just get this kit. Make sure to look up the OEM bulb part # for the X before you order ( not the OEM HID bulb # but the one of the halogen bulb thats in there now). I recommend going with a 55w kit in the 4300k - 6000k range for the most usable light output (OEM being 4300).Good luck!![Smilie](https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Ok gotcha... sorry about the you dont know what youre talking about comment. That is so cheap of mitsu. A $30k + with no projectors! I agree then that he should change the housing. I do hate when there someone behind me at night with super bright HIDs in a reflector housing with the light going all over the place.

I know some people who have them in and say they are great, can they really be that cheap?
Does anyone have a non SSS GSR with a HID kit? Any burn marks anywhere from the increased heat?
Has anyone solved the DRL problem so you don't have to have the HID's on during the day?
Thanks

Here's the how to for disabling the DRL's:

When I had HID's in my VW GTI, some decent cheap bulbs I purchased were from 3bspec. They were $60/pair.. but that was a few years ago. Now there are quite a few places selling them for dirt cheap, but I can't speak for the quality.
And yes.. people have done the non-SSS HID ricer look. I recommend against it. Terrible glare and light scatter.

I have the base GSR and installed the projectors. Paid $327 each side and installed aftermarket HID's. This is now putting out better light than factory and came out cheaper. I did have to do the projectors, it gives an awesome cutoff. The projectors to me were worth the extra cash, and I sold my stock halogens.

I was reading some other threads that were saying if you put in the SSS headlights in a non SSS that you'll need a different wiring harness and ECU. That true?

I think it's just straight plug and play. Only thing is that when running the day time running lights, the HIDS are gonna flicker cuz there's not enough voltage going to the bulbs. But I believe there is a fix for that.
