HID conversion
I've tried searching for this but didn't really come up with any real solutions. I want to get an HID conversion kit, going OEM HID on a GSR (from what I've read, is $$$$$$$$$ and troublesome). Who has an HID conversion kit on their GSR and what brand and where did you get it? If there is a thread out there that I didn't find or overlooked can you send me the link to it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

my GSR came w/ HID's from the factory. I upgraded the bulbs to an 8000K kit for about 20 bucks.
as far as going GSR non SSS to GSR SSS (the big difference is the projector housings). the housings w/ projectors are 600+ each I believe, thats why if you want to go true HID w/ projectors it is expensive.
you can buy a HID kit, and not use projectors, and a decent kit is usually like 100 bucks or so on ebay. I like the Xentec stuf, I have a pair of them as HID fogs for my GSR w/ 3000K yellow color
You might blind people, and a lot of people will say dont do it, but thats what I did on my Cobalt SS and it looked good, and I put a set in my girls Kia, and they look good there too. Its the cheaper way to do it, but it will get you better visability, and a cool blue color

I don't think going cheaper is a bad thing... or a ricer thing... now if I just got bulbs or did the hood lights thing, that would be totally ricer (I have a $60 hid conversion kit installed on my Ducati, does that make it a rice rocket? I think not.. it just makes it a sexier italian bike hehe) and yeah I prefer projectors but for $600-$1000 I think a good (quality) HID conversion kit will be a better investment and I can use those $600-$1000 for power mods.

I have the base GSR and installed the projectors. Paid $327 each side and installed aftermarket HID's. This is now putting out better light than factory and came out cheaper. I did have to do the projectors, it gives an awesome cutoff. The projectors to me were worth the extra cash, and I sold my stock halogens.

Where you get them? How much did you get for your stock halogens?

I pmed you where I got them, they are not a vendor on this forum. Sold my halogens fast for $200, lots of interest. Could have sold for more, but see sets on ebay brand new around $300 and wanted them gone.

8000K means a reduction of light output of about 1/3rd. Instead of 3200 Lumens of white light, you have about 2000 Lumens of Blue light.
6000K is about 20-25% reduction in light output.
Anything higher than 5000-5400K makes no logical sense at all. The highest output is 4100-4300K 3200 Lumens. at 5000K you only loose about 5% output. at 5400-5500K you loose about 10%.

I would NOT call 8000K or even 6000K an upgrade. Upgrade means an improvement, What you did going to 8000K is a downgrade.

I also have non-SSS GSR, I've installed OEM projector+HID and I think it's the only way to go. They plug straight in and long as you leave the headlight switch in the on position, the lights turn off with the car, when you open the door, and they turn on on start up with no problems whatsoever. Placing HIDs in Halogen housing is both ignorant and irresponsible, without proper focus you end up with scattered light and dark spots. Not to mention your housing isn't designed for the high temperatures that HIDs emit. Lastly, as wiretap says it really cheapens an amazing car. Do you want your X to look like every other piece of ***** cobalt? While blinding everyone around you? Save your money for a bit, its worth it.
