Retreaded rubber!! hit my car!
What a wonderful way to start my day! I just mergered on to the freeway and made a lane change behind a POS Grand Am. 10 secs later cruising along a 75 or so a big piece of rubber gets shot and slams into my car on the rt front of my Evo.
A couple small cracks on my passenger side headlight assembly, and a small dent on the top of the fender. I was quoted $800 and change for the light with the Hid bulbs and I am assuming $75 to $100 bucks for a dent Dr. dude. I have to say this is the first time something that this has happen to me with a new car.
I guess it was a matter of time

Also, am I the only one who questions the reason for these semis to use tires that fling of big chunks of rubber onto our national highway system!! How much freaking money to they save using this BS type of tire that costs us a crap load of money a yr in damaged cars, as well as the safety concerns.

That stuff is no joke,
It'll mess you up...
And if you can get the plates off the car it's possible to tie it to them..
I've had friends get windshields fixed from rocks coming off dump-trucks...

Depending on your insurance deductible, you could cover this under your comprehensive insurance and it should not raise your rates.
If this was my car, my deductible is $500 so I would claim it on my insurance. Had to do this for a previous car (VW R32) when I hit a poor little doggy who ran out in front of the car. He cracked the entire front bumper and it needed to be replaced. Insurance covered it because it's not considered an "at-fault" accident. I just paid my $500 deductible and they covered the rest (around $2000 total cost).
Maybe talk to your insurance and see if it makes sense to get it covered by them

OP, getting quoted $800 is a steal. The OEM lamp itself is $815.98 here, with .3 labor AFTER the bumper is removed. Because thats the only way to do it. With the labor time added @ $44/Hr (here in SW Va) and the parts cost the total to replace JUST 1 headlamp will come to $944.78. Paintless dent repair is around $99 a dent here, if they can fix it. If its on an edge or a body line they can't typically get it done correctly. Hope this helps, good luck!
Edit: PS - shoot me a couple pics via PM and I'll write you a legit estimate here on the work PC.
