This is the first time I've seen an oil change referred to as a "pain in the ***".

really? i mean, i guess since its not all that hard to spill and fill with the 5-30 its not a big deal just to change it.

i know better safe than sorry is the best policy, but without any indication of mods and if he really didnt want to go back and do it over, 3k or so miles of light to moderate driving shouldnt have hurt anything. stomping the pedal every chance you get or driving a modified car, of course, changes everything

Eh.. the possible damage to the motor is not worth the $20 in oil saved.

Yeah, peace of mind to any extent is priceless. .
I probably would of drive it for at least 10 mins to get the old oil left over, out. Just so i know it's a little cleaner. New5-20>3k mile5-30

But then again, I also change my oil every 2k miles, seems to be the magic number.

i wouldnt run it 3k but those who say to just dump it are ignorant. you arent going to blow up your engine by running it. its not like you filled it with maple syrup and hope its ok. its still good synthetic oil that still protects well.

i wouldnt beat on it though. if that was my car, i'd drive it about 1000 miles THEN dump it out (atleast you got some usage out of it)

There's nothing stopping you using the Mobil 1 0W-40. It's a very good oil, gets well reviewed over at BITOG. It shears to a high SAE 30 anyway, don't let the SAE 40 put you off.

You will be fine with 5W20 for 3k miles- I wouldn't track it but for daily driving you will be ok.

Change the oil. I'd consider the 5w-20 just a rinse.

This is something I refer to when questions about oil pop up. It's not gospel, but there's some good stuff in it
