Interesting I had not thought of that. Is the body galvanized? I'm assuming those panels arent aluminum. The rockers took the brunt of it but they are plastic. There are a few spots on the rear doors and a few spots on the tiny sliver or rear quarter in front of the rear wheel.

There are no signs of rust yet. A couple questions:

Are the doors aluminum? I don't think so. Just the hood and roof right?

is the body galvanized? I'm assuming so.

Anyone use touch up paint? Dealer or aftermarket?

LOL I just got the car inspected using my "Aftermarket front plate kit" (a long winter boot shoe lace). I caught the inspection guy taking pics of it with his BlackBerry.

Doesnt Mitsu sell WW touch up paint? In the M3 world there was an aftermarket company selling these great little paint pens with very fine tips.

I saw you traded for a ww X. I really loved your old one, had me on the hunt for a WW IX for a long time, especially when you were running the black wheels.

New X? Used?

Nice pickup, dude. I would have been a nervous wreck knowing my car was on a trailer, going cross country. I've heard some real HORROR stories about some of these vehicle transport companies. Glad to see you didn't have any problems.

O.T. I see you're from Boston. Where about?

I'm in Plymouth, an EVO free zone for the most part. There is one Silver IX floating around, a nice MR with a Special Edition lip on it. That's about it. If I ever run into the IX again it will be an instant South Shore Evo show. Biggest one ever.

Well I found my first significant defect today. I was getting into the car and the sun was shining on the hood just right to reveal this baseball sized repair on the hood. You can't really feel it but its pretty nastly looking now that I've seen it. Not sure how I missed it when I washed it the other day. Hmmm... I know the car had some reported damage on the Carfax and this must be it. I went over the car looking for signs of collision never thinking the defect would be non-collision. Guess I shouldn't complain. I'll live with it for the short term since it isn't completely obvious but the question is - should I get a new hood or get it repaired better? I'm sure I'll end up with a thin skim of filler if I get it repaired. How much is a hood? Hmmm....

You could get a carbon fiber hood. They shouldn't have done that to repair the hood. They should have put a new one.

The owner could have skated with the insurance cash and done a poor paintless dent repair. That's what it looks like to me. Looks like a stocker is $750 and a CF around $650. Given the hood is aluminum, is there a weight advantage?
