Cone filters...

Hello, so after do a little research I've decided to take the stock airbox out and throw on a cone filter. Here's the question, does brand really matter? I went to autozone today and saw a cheap cone for around 30 bucks, but the K&N ran around 60. Also does anyone know what size cone to get or does it not really matter? Thanks in advance...

Brand makes a huge difference. Not only for power, but also engine protection.

i got an AEM dry flow cone filter for $38 shipped. it fit perfectly and helped me get 320 whp. i asked my tuner how ghetto intakes effect everything, he said they're perfect, and usually the more you spend on an intake, the less effectively it works. ARC in particular

36.75 shipped for an Amsoil. its the little things that make it better imho. the inside of the lip has several rings molded into it to help it adhere to your intake piping, the outside of the lip has one as well. the media is contained inside a very high density plastic with stainless covers. no glue in between the folds of the media. just very well done. ffs the clamp is even better than the ones that came with my intercooler piping lmao

The size of inlet is all that really matters. I think the MAF housing is around 2.5" but you just need to measure it with a ruler.

Ok so I installed the cone, do I need to do an ecu reset by disconnecting the battery? I've read on a few forums it helps...

you may need to get a retune, as a cone filter can drastically change the way the MAF meters air.

Eventually will get a tune but want to get an exhaust and a little more money before that...

You should prolly be ok but I would take it easy on WOT's just incase. You wouldn't want to blow a brand new engine just because of a $30 filter.

Good point, I'm thinking about ordering a better filter can't decide between amsoil or perrin...

Amsoil is pure quality, worth the money. Brands difference comes in the build quality, and research.

ETS w/heat shield all the way. Sounds sexy, but ***** to install MAF pipe that's you gotta clamp behind the engine.

I run a Greddy Ti-C w/ ETS intake and no codes been thrown at me, runs great and fast.

Also ETS uses a K&N cone.

I did mine with a K&N cone. I'd recommend holding off on switching to a cone filter until you can get a tune.

On a stock tune he's probably fine. You don't want to mess with the intake after you are tuned. Having an AFR gauge so you can see if there's a problem = priceless.
