No air filter = what kind of damage?

Haha you're fine.
If there was anything big enough to damage the turbo, you'd know it immediately. Not to mention it would have to make its way through the intake, through the IC, and to the turbo. Not likely.

Not to make the OP more paranoid but the compressor blades in the turbo are in direct line of fire right after the filter (which fell off).

Yes, I left the front of the airbox on as well. My setup looks the same except I have a K&N 0930 cone. Its been quite a while and my filter has been fine. I'm 99.9% sure that I had it on too tight and it was pinching itself right off.
