- Notchy 2nd gear; third gear notchy went away
- the SRS recall didn't get offered to me in MO even though it should have
- FAST KEY "died" by being too close to my cell phone, repl under warranty, and it still worked as "touchlesss", just no buttons would function
- Glovebox rattle (reported, but not in mine)
- Rear deck rattle with RF sub in back
- Recaro cloth seat shows a little wear on driver left side where entering often
- injector "tap tap" sound; common

Very reliable car so far at 44,000 miles. Plan on being diligent with all oil and drivetrain fluid changes. Plan on changing ALL brake fluid at least ever two years to keep the pedal rock hard firm. Plan on buying tires and brakes more often then you think.

I bet that latter "tips" are good for any Evo, gen 1 thru X.

I think you're referring to the hydraulic lifters.

Different folks have attributed it to both lifters and injectors; the pre X owners all claimed injectors. The X folks who complained the most took it into the dealer to let their local Mitsubishi mechanics take a crack at "fixing" it. Me, I'm not worried about it. It's been there since my second oil change two years ago and 40,000 miles ago. No harm, no foul.

I'll check the lifter situation out in another ~20k when I tackle the lifter adjustment maintenance I suppose.

Well the reason I say lifters, is because on the 4g63, that was the ticking sound. We called it the DSM syndrome. Swap out the lifters and it'd either get worse or get better. Really wasn't a good fix for it. It's not a big deal, just annoying.

How do you come up with 4 years? It went on sale January 2008 in the US. So at most it can be 2 years and 10 months....

No problems...

I'm at 29k miles - no mechanical problems.

Just rattles and creaks in the dash...

I've put close to 300,000 miles on 3 different Evos, you don't have to worry. All Evos are built like trucks, Mitsu is really just a truck company. My 08 X has 115,000 hard miles. If you don't bang it off the rev limiter every day then you might want to switch to a Prius.

How was your ownership on the previous generation EVo's? Which one was your favorite? Im still looking at a few used IX's and a few 05 VIII's. I still prefer the look and TRUNK SPACE of the older ones. Not to mention the lower price.

I know some early 08's had some leaking timing chain covers... I thought mine was but it was only my oil pan(easy fix). And as far as buying a used one, you could be buying a can or worms. If you are buying a stock car I might not be worried, but ideally have someone who knows evo's look over it really good for any issues. Mine broke down on me, but for less than 200 bucks it was back on the road including the tow... fuel line popped of the pump in the tank(walbro).
