Can the factory aero kit be removed?

After I buy my evo, I am planning to buy front bumper, side skirt, and rear bumper add on pieces. The problem is I dont know if they will fit on the factory aero kit, or just the base model. It would be nice to know so I dont buy an evo with the aero kit and realize i stuck with it.

So I guess I have two questions:
1) Do most aftermarket add ons/lips fit over the factory aero kit,
and 2) If not, can the factory kit be removed. And if so, is it just the base model underneath?

some places like Rexpeed sell stuff that can go on the aero kit. just have to look in description of item to see if it will or not. yes you can take aero off but....... you will need original side skirts (since they are taken off to put on aero) and the center peice that goes under the grill is gone. there are some pics on this forum of a few without. Dealer might have the oem from another car since it is a dealer install item. but they might be a different color. they should give them to you since it came with all them originally i think. or check the sale listing and i am sure someone is selling theirs. the only thing that does not get removed is the front and rear bumbers, everything else gets added to them.

It seems like you will have to look at the specific parts you want to determine if they will or will not fit over the factory Aero kit. Do you know which one you are wanting?

thanks for the info armysoldier

this one in particular:

but if this one wont fit over the aero kit, and thats what i end up getting, i would like to know if any basic lip add on would fit instead. this one doesnt look like it would fit over which i was wondering if the aero kit is removable. from what armysoldier says, its possible but i would have to contact the dealer for the oem parts. the problem with this is i will buying used, most likely not from the mitsu dealer it came from.

let me make this simpler in hopes of a solution.

Is the aero kit added on to the base bumper, or is it a whole different bumper that is put on instead of the base one?

From the look of things this weekend, taking the bumper off. There are a few plastic clips that hold the lip to the bumper. Bc it covers the factory black grill, I cant tell if its actually there. Its just plastic clips on the side.. BUT there are these very tiny rivet looking things that im not sure how to remove. Prob in order to get the lip off, you have to break something, so better be sure the cf lip is what you want, I doubt there is any going back. As far as ive seen the only thing that fits over the factory aero kit, are the cf side spats that just cover the rear corner of the skirts, and the cf gurney for the sss wing. The rexpeed lips will not cover the aero lip, but replace it instead

I did it... and its a pain. You pretty much need stock skirts and front lower lip for the bumper. Taking it off is easy. Just finding the parts is a pain
