Something is absolutely wrong. Open up the hood and check the bushings and shifter arms while someone wiggles it around. If you don't see play in the cables on the transmission, it's in the console under the shifter.

As I dont recall seeing this white piece cap at all during my installation, it must have dropped when it pulled the transmission arm out. This little piece of nylon or plastic holds the tightness of the shifter in the left-right direction.

I found something similar to replace this missing part for now, not perfect nor ideal, but it's close to stock as far as the wiggling goes.

Shouldnt have rushed it!!

Thank you everyone again for all the helps.
Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but did you ever find the part number for this piece? on the EVO X forum, someone said they ordered this part from the dealer but didnt list the P/N and Im not a member over there. I went to install my bushings and that piece was gone! I dont know if I lost it pulling it out or if it was a quality control issue but mine is not there. Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike

I have exactly the same problems as you have.

I’ve just ordered a modified version of the plastic part. (They guaranteed me that will be 100% compatible with Evo X, and will improve shift quality )

See the pictures.

It’s cost 15gbp.

I will install it on the weekend, and let you know the results

For ordering the parts:

That doesn't look anything close to the original white nylon cap. I can't really see how it fits to the shift arm. But please us posted once you installed it. Thanks!

To answer other members' question: no, I haven't ordered or found a 100% replacement for it yet. As I forgot to mention in my last reply, I actually used a tire pressure valve cap as the replacement. Not as good as stock obviously, but it's better than nothing.

My longer term solution would be to dissemble the shifting cable again, get dimension measured and go buy some thick nylon and hard plastic cables, then cut it up myself. It shouldn't be too difficult to do, but I just haven't got the time and patient to do it yet.

At least I now know what it looks like! haha. superluz, where did you find that piece at? I wouldnt mind trying one out. I used a piece of silicone hose cut to length and it works ok but I want to get this fixed ASAP.

I notice the 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse gears wiggle the most since they are on the outside. 1st and 2nd wiggles toward left, and 5th and reverse toward right.

The wiggling only happens on the left-right direction.

I have searched the forum and google, no one has mentioned anything like this.

something sounds like it wasn't installed right... TWM is know for ZERO Wiggle! after you install it.. with proper torque on all the scews and bolts it will be secure. Ive had 3 of this shifters since 2006 and all performed flawlessly!
