How soon is too soon... to mod?
Good enough... isn't.
So, I have barely 600 miles on my 2010 Evo X MR. I am not feeling like I have spent enough money. Do I really need any more power? No, not really. I mean, I have not even really hammered the Evo, yet as I am waiting to click past 1000 or 2500 or 5000 or something.
So, do I start changing intakes, flashing ECUs, swapping exhaust and intercooler pipes, and such? Is there any wisdom in waiting for that first oil change before I start making mods?
I am not planning on going for a awhp record or anything (my wife will be driving the car, too - thus the SST), I just want to "customize" a little. I am looking at intake, turbo-back, and a CobbAP for ECU flashing. Although there isn't a compelling case for it at stock-ish boost levels, I like the Cobb intercooler hard pipe kit. Of course, I am dealing with CA gas and its pitiful 91 octane.

maybe get used to the stock power level (unless you're totally unimpressed with it) then start power mods. you'll appreciate the changes a lot more once you have something to compare it to.

I agree mod away.
what do you want to change about the car the most? The performance, sound, styling?
I think when I first got mine, I just made a huge list, like 10k+ easy, and didn't know where to start, so I went with performance.. and realized that I was gonna be in a major money pit trying to rush it and get it all done. So I've decided to switch it up a bit, do a little style so I can enjoy the car more and be patient with the performance mods. Picking up wheels in the next couple weeks, maybe a few cf goodies, think the gf bought me a T1R shift boot and Knob for x-mas.

I think the key is that your warranty may be toast as soon as you mod. Drive the car long enough to be satisfied that you don't need anything warrantied out of the box.
That being said, I did full bolt-ons at 1200 miles.

I would say if you know what you are getting into and doing and are able to handle the current mods then mod away like others have stated. Also, mod away if you don't care about a warrenty. Some instances could void it even though this is less likely these days.

In the past I modded within the first 500 miles. But now I would wait until a few thousand miles incase there are some quirks that I need my warranty to take care of. Last thing you want to do is to take it to the dealer with mods and for them to make a note that you have mods on your car.
Then you can always take the mods off before going to the dealer.
