I think you've got this all wrong. I know lots of people who are or have at one point cross-shopped the two cars. With that said Ford is no longer just getting attention from the old-timers, nor are they banking on the American Pride shoppers. Ford is making cars for anyone and everyone, the Mustang included. Just look at their Raptor, its a hint of old school ranch with new school modifications.

If I had not gotten the deal that I did on my Evo X, I would be in a Mustang V8 in a heartbeat. Sounds good, looks good, handles good, you really can't beat price per dollar with the new Mustangs. Also remember the Mustang is $3,000 less than the Evo X when it comes to base price. $3,000 goes a long way with American cars.

I don't think you understand what I was getting at or read my post properly. The Mustang has historically outsold all sporty cars and it's because they have a base of buyers that want a Mustang. Those buyers have never really looked at cars like the EVO or STI that sell in minute numbers in comparison.

I never said that people don't cross shop the cars. In fact I said that people that would normally look at just the EVO/STI are now looking at the Mustang GT. I said that typical Mustang buyers don't cross shop with EVO or STI.

I think it cuts both ways, honestly.

I have a friend with a highly modified (twin turbo low boost while retaining the factory SC) 2010 GT500. He took me for a ride in it, but I did not drive it.

I drove Smike's 2011 V6, and some random 05-08 GTs. While I have not driven a 2011 GT with the 5.0 Coyote motor in it, I respect it, but that's about it.

I think the same can be said of my GT500 friend over my car. He definitely respects it, but we are just cut from a different cloth.

And that's my point. Smike's car is nice, highly improved, and even though the weight is similar in it and my car, his car feels really heavy.

I could never own a Mustang. The things I value in a car like precision, great steering feel, traction, four doors... The Mustang doesn't even care about them. It's a brute that punishes the tarmac into submission. It's loud, has a solid axle, and feels enormous. Is it fast? Heck yes, it has 412HP and is well sorted. But it's not for me. And I'm not worried about the limitations of a stock Evo X, since upgrading to an additional 100whp is pretty easy in our cars. The stock Evo is definitely slow in the acceleration department.

If you love an Evo or a Mustang GT for what they really stand for, it is very unlikely you'd cross shop them.

Does anyone else think its silly to compare times done on different days by different drivers, let alone a different year?

I am having a hard time believing that the SE is 3 sec faster than the 08 MR. Is the weight difference that big? I feel like there are other variables that make comparing some of these times irrelevant.

The answer is in the retardedly rich tune that 2008 EVO's came with.

That has to make IX owners swallow their pride and hopefully show a little more respect for the new models. The heavy, soft EVO X SE thoroughly beats the lighter, 4G63 powered IX MR.
I'm a IX RS owner and i'm proud that the X SE did well. my biggest source of joy actually comes from the X SE spanking the Cobalt SS/TC - i'm just glad i don't have to put up with its fanboys telling me how great their Cobalts are anymore

when i saw this years Lightning Lap i quickly sent it to my good friend with a '07 STI. the first thing he said was "if only the STI had a tune..." then followed by "it would have been atleast 6 seconds faster if it had stage 2"

even though his car is really clean and he is actually a good driver, we call him "ricer" for a good reason

Yeah, cross shopping - there are a few Evo guys with Mustangs now. Actually, we have each flavor down in Other Cars right now - slowTSI got a GT500, Dave Buschur and his GT, and my v6 Performance Package (which is what they used in the Lightning Lap).

*also worth noting the v6 was limited with the factory 114 limiter that it bounce on for 15 seconds! (one reason - can rent this car at the airport). I have removed that, thank you very much.

Hey, where is the STi?

I am just glad to see Mitsubishi being compared to cars Ill never be able to afford. Sure a GT-R or a Lamborghini are always going to be above the Mitsubishi, but at least were on the list.
