I have an 08 MR and I have thrown the P1870 code twice and I have parked the car until I do some research. I was just daily driving when the car lost drive and went into some kind of limp mode and service transmission warning. I could not go more the 20 MPH. I live in Michigan and it is cold. It was about 30 Deg F.
The only mods on the car are:
1) a dyno tune which included bypassing the boost control solenoid and using a MBC
2) I replaced the OEM trans fluid with SSP transmission fluid which is supposed to lubricate better and reduce wear for heavy use such as track days.

I know the code is a Mistubishi specific code for the transmission but I have not determined what it means. Can anyone help?

I am trying to determine if the transmisions has a real failure, or if the SSP fluid is causing the issue when it is cold, or if the tune with MBC could cause this issue. the car ran fine all summer with the SSP trans fuild. I got the tune about one month before the I got the code.

95% chance tune issue. 5% chance hardware issue.


Since it's now a change of season and temps you are flowing different airflow values, which can trip the limp mode if not tuned correctly.
