Failed Emissions...what to do?
Failed my emissions test today due to the fact that my check-engine light was on due to overboosting. They told me I need it cleared before I can pass my test. My question is can I just take this to my mechanic to fix this or do I need to take her in to a Mitsu dealership? Thanks in advance.

Unless you are friendly with your AUTOZONE store, they are no longer supposed to clear codes. They would do the scan, but will not clear it for you.
You can get a cheap OBDII reader/clearer at Harbor Freight. Worth the money, since with these cars, I seem to need it regularly.

OP said he has a mechanic so yes, go to your mechanic. Now next time you are going to get any car smogged, make sure it doesn't have a big yellow light that says "Check Engine".
If you go back to the same smog station, the rep will probably be on to you and check for more things than just the light. If your overboosting issue is affecting your emmissions negatively, he is for sure going to catch that way past a simple CEL.
Also, he is more likely to look for aftermarket parts to fail you on the visual inspection portion.
That is, of course, if he isn't a "cool person".

because most people dont understand all the checks the car does before it reverts back to a ready state.... there are many conditions that need to be passed such as cold starts, etc, etc. All the checks could be taken care of in 15 miles, or it could take 100.... its hit or miss really, unless ofcourse you know exactly the tests that need to pass to put it in readiness state
