Snow blocking Intercooler

Just wondering if this causes any problems, there was a huge snowstorm last night and I drove home. Saw that there was packed snow behind the grill, so its impossible to get out...and Im also worried it can cause some samage if its bloked

I am fairly new to the Evo world so I do not know these little details

It'll be fine as long as the radiator can still get some airflow which it should be able to from the upper bumper opening.

i would think with snow in there it would make it way cooler than normal, so it'd be even better? either better or the same IMO since the job of the intercooler is to cool down the air anyways.

You should be fine. However, you could throw a bucket of hot water on it to melt the snow off or take it to a self wash car wash and spray it out.

It was cool driving last night eh?

When I arrived home I saw that I had the same issue, snow packed hard up front.
I found some roads that had no tracks and the snow was 1 foot deep at times- very cool!

More snow this week. I think I will organize a track day next Sunday.

If the snow was directly on the intercooler, you'll be fine and it will just melt off when it gets hot. If there is a space between the snow and the intercooler then you are getting less airflow. With temps cold enough to produce snow, I don't think it would be too big of an issue.

HAHA, this post just reminded me of when I had my STi. At the race track we put a huge armful of ice cubes on our top mount intercooler. By the time the car made 1 lap it must have evaporated.

Snow in front of the evo intercooler can only prevent air from passing thru. It'll melt whatever is close to the intercooler but you might have some issues if there is no moving air going thru the intercooler at all which would require a tight seal of snow which i doubt can happen.

Thats why subarus have them mounted up top to avoid that. I still prefer a FMIC though

Record snowfall here in NY so I've had the problem with snow packed in the grill, wheels etc. Simple fix though just head to the local car wash and use the power sprayer.

The hood scoop can still get blocked off. I think there was one WRC rally where the subaru car had to stop so that they could clear out the wet leaves in the scoop because the car was overheating.
