I need help making a decision on an intake. Seeing how there are a huge amount of intakes covering the spectrum in prices. I normally settle with an easy AEM CAI, but i notice there are a few versions. Any one explain this and help me out?

I just picked up an AMS intake. It's more expensive but the fitment and installation was awsome. The sound of the intake brings a smile to my face and power that was picked up without a tune is really good. I don't live far from AMS so I didn't have to pay shipping for it. That and I wanted the PC Black and not anything polished.

That's my 2 cents.

Primo Performance 3.5" intake FTW. Good bang for your buck and if you ever start pushing your stock MAF housing, you have room to grow with this one.

EDIT: You will need a tune though

That is with the MBC, no way would you get a 45hp gain from a intake. I get what your saying though. I am leaning AMS. I have been a fan of their products since I had my previous evo.

seeming as that intake runs a dif maf housing, you probably don't want to run it without a tune for long...

My recommendation is to stick with an intake that utilizes the stock MAF housing to keep idle and drivability nice and smooth. A stock turbo or mild stockframe turbo is perfectly happy on the stock MAF housing.

These are my favorites:
AFE
Cobb
ETS

If you want to retain an airbox to reduce noise then look at the AEM kit too.

We have a nice intake that uses the stock MAF housing, no need for rescaling.

Here is a link to our dyno results.

I just ordered the K&N kit. $300 shipped to my door. I wanted ETS but considering it's $510 for the intake and UICP, I'll pass.

No intake has a built in MAF. The MAF is an electronic sensor and every intake utilizes the stock one. Maybe you're referring to MAF housing? If that's the case, then it depends. A stock turbo and most stockframe turbos will do perfectly fine on the stock MAF housing. A big turbo will enjoy a larger than stock MAF housing though (keep in mind this reduces MAF resolution which can cause rougher idle and drivability).

Thanks Kracka! haha. So in other words, I wont need a bigger MAF for the simple reason I will only be going up to an FP Green..

Good info! I've been wondering which intakes people prefer.
