Snorkel Screws? - New Evo X Owner
Any tips for getting the two screws off that hold the snorkle on to the front plastic covering? Just bought this GSR yesterday and already time for an intake
I owned an 09 Lancer GTS before this that i kept primarily stock, and before that i had an 03 Lancer OZ which i custom turbo'd, so i'm pretty familiar with both the cars, and turbo in general
I had this issue with the Lancer GTS towards the end of my ownership of it. Turning the screws and they dont back out at all. On the GTS i was able to get my hand underneath to touch them and squeeze together as i unscrewed, but on the Evo X i cant get my hands under there. Suggestions?

Gently pry up underneath the clips lip with a flathead screwdriver as you slowly and gently unscrew it with a phillipshead. What intake are you going to install? Certain aftermarket intakes benefit from leaving the snorkel in place.

Intake - Leaving the snorkel on, just going open element with a heatshield until i decide what hard pipe system i want to go with. However i need to take the snorkel off to make it easier to get some stuff out
Anyone know the diameter of the stock Maf sensor tube that mates to the air box? 2.5"? Thinking of picking up a 45 degree bend too to locate the air filter to the lower right corner of the engine bay just behind the headlight

Well finally had some nice weather today so i did the air filter install during lunch
Picked up the usual Spectre 3" air filter from my local shop (the one without the velocity stack since those are proven to REDUCE power) and a t clamp. Ran into the "spinning bolt" issue on the MAF. Ended up cracking the ear/tab to get it out. Oh well, not like i'll probably ever have the stock air box back on again. Decided in order to avoid the radiator fan heat soak issue, and keep some cold air in there, i kept the snorkel and the front hair of the air box on. Effectively works as a heat shield, while still funneling air right to the filter.
Definitely a marked improvement. Obviously the sound is a lot louder and you can actually hear the BOV now, but the powerband seems a little smoother on the butt dyno, and it no longer sounds like its gasping for air. The turbo seems to spool a hair earlier too. I tested out the radiator fan issue to see if i would have any stalling problems and so far i havent noticed a stumble at all in the idle (other than the usual stumbles and weird idles haha and yes i have checked the FPR hose). Took a few runs up and down the block, let the car sit with the fan on, without the fan on, etc. Seems ok! Plus its 76 degrees out today so its a good day to test it.
All in all very happy with this quick, cheap, and easy mod. Just temporary until i can get the Injen UICP and Intake set in a few weeks.
Good start to my Evo X ownership
