Cleaning Stubborn Brake Dust?

I hit my wannabie Work CR-Kai's with Armorall "triple action" wheel cleaner today and a tooth brush. I still have some stubborn little spots embedded in the grain of the metal.

Any thoughts? Don't say trash the wheels they are my winters and Rota has a place in the world....

why not change your pads

Why not change to ceramic pads they leave way less dust and low fade should solve the problem and add better stoping power.
Seen some good one on lancer shop.com as far as cleaning I use this green brake cleaner that should spray and wash off yes it works for fresh dust but for the long time spots you have to get down and durty made should try some type of paint remover or some hard core degreaser with gloves and a rag should work.

Keep us informed every one has this problem unless you wash your rims every day.lol

Thanks for the tips. Unlike most wheels, The Rota Torques have an intentional but unfortunate grainy finish on all the inner faces, which causes the brake dust to collect in the metal's pores. The dust comes right off the smooth faces like any normal wheel, but leaves these rougher faces spotty.

I just ordered a set of Work XT-7's but I wanted to clean these up. I may just get these Rotas powder coated at some point. Overall they are great wheels.

I have ceramics on the rear, they are far easier to clean.

I need to try the Simple Green I think. I have some really stuck on my RE-30's. I'm afraid they are ruined.

This will suck - but use a clay bar. Then polish and wax. It's the only way to remove the brake dust you have on there. Wheel cleaner unfortunately isn't going to cut it.

If you're going to wax, check out Finish Kare 1000P high temp paste wax. Lay down a few layers with about 8-12 hours between coats. Works awesome!

Wash, Bug & Tar, Simple Green Motorsport degreaser, wash, FK 1000P x3.
