I'm on my second Evo X and didn't know this

2 step

I have a question for you guys. I can't find it anywhere. When I am @ the drag strip and i am in first gear with traction off. Do i have to go back to neutral to engage the 2 step after i stage? Or does the 2 step work when in 1st gear @ a standstill? I am asking because once I stage, the lights go super fast & i don't want to rev up to 7400 & launch @ that rpm. Thanks.

Are you guys saying that putting the ASC into off/off is required to engage the two-step?

Thanx speedytl. I am going for my 2nd time tomorrow & I can't afford to take my eyes off the tree to tell & its hard to hear with my helmet on & windows up with noise on top of it. My reaction time is bad enough already! I think I may have to start slipping the clutch @ the last amber.

Mine hits the 5500 or so rev limiter when stopped, but it doesn't seem to be building much boost.

I'd actually like to lower it to about 3.5-4k, letting it build about 10lbs, then feather the clutch...

Anyone know if it's the ECU controlling the wastegate? Perhaps a higher spring wastegate actuator? Or anyone know if you can update the AP to do this?

Make sure you turn off the traction control or the car will fall on its face off the line. Slip the clutch and let the tires spin a little. My guess is its easier on the drive train to use the 2 step and spin the tires. for best 60' times try to slip the clutch vs a hard dump + its easier on the drive train. low 1.7 60' times on street tires is pretty good in my mind.

Notice you are from edmonton as well. Have you been to Stratotech at all? I own a PB GSR as well. I havent been to the strip this year yet to see what my new set up will get me but im hoping for 11's.

Heres how i do it at castrol....

-go around the waterbox (dont go through it)
-while im waiting to be sent to the tree i turn the traction control "off, off" (hold the tc button for 5secs, the chime will ding and the warning sign will come up)
-move to the tree
-once myself and the other guy is staged (both of us with 2 yellow lights) put the gas to the floor (the rpms will bounce at 5500rpm and boost should build to 5psi)
-once the lights start dropping i leave on the last yellow (by the time myself and the car reacts its green)

Heres videos of how i staged and how 2 step should sound.

kinda late on this one...

Thanx for the info snakes. Every bit helps. Its only gonna be my 2nd time tomorrow night. I have a pb gsr as well. I haven't been to stratotech yet, but want to some day. I am still on stock suspension. You must have an upgraded turbo to be hoping to get into the 11's. My best run was 13.42 @ 104.75. My 60' was 1.99. I didn't get a good launch though & my reaction time was 0. 933. Lol. Newb!
Snakes, you don't happen to work in Nisku do you? I see a pb evo x gsr with a single outlet exhaust sometimes around sparrow drive & Airport road.

No im in the army so im always on the northend of the city. And yes, my mods are...

Ball Bearing FP Red, ported, hiflow oil feed line and 25psi wga
FIC 1100cc injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator kit
ETS 4" IC
AMS UICP
AMS LICP w/ TiAL QR bov
AMS CAI
AMS Widemouth DP
T1R Resinated TP
Tomei Expreme Exhaust
TWM short throw shift with cage and full bushing replacement
Perrin Rear Sway Bar
Perrin Rear Endlinks
AMR Coilovers
AMS SS Braided Brake lines
Motul RBF 600 brake fluid
PF01 Rims (18X9.5) with Falken RT 615k tires
SSP Undertray
GS 3port
DSG dual Pillar
AEM Digital Wideband/boost gauge
Clipse3GT Tuned on 94 Octane, 27psi (approx 423whp 382trq)

I burnt the clutch out with the launches and pulls during the tuning so on the way (should arrive next week)

ACT HD 6 puck clutch
ACT Streetlite Flywheel
AMS CMC kit

Your reaction time wont make your times change. You could sit there for 5mins and still run low 13's (although people would get pissed with you just sitting there) Do you have any mods? 13.4@104 is a good time, especially your trap speed. Bone stock i ran 13.5@100 with a 1.8 60'

This is my car...

Wow. That's quite a list of mods. I am thinking of going fp red as well. I am still on stock turbo but have Full Invidia tbe, k&n intake with uicp, ams ic & custom tuned @ Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer @ 321 awhp, 380 awtq. (29 psi) I expected better times with those numbers.

do you have a picture of the dyno graph. I'm not a fan of Cam's work. I think it would be better if you were making around 350hp and 350 trq. With those mods you can get more hp. the trq is the killer though and thats what you gotta keep an eye on. When do you get full boost?

As for your times, you need to get a 1.7 - 1.8 60'. If you learn how to launch it with the 2 step you can get a nice 60'. But you will need a clutch soon, haha.
