Would like some information on this evo

Hey guys, I just put a deposit down on this evo. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mitsu...ht_1587wt_1167

Right after I sent the deposit thru paypal I called the guy and asked when I should have my inspector come over and look at it. He said it's getting a new turbo right now, so sometime next week. Now I'm a little concerned. Why would it need a new turbo? Does anyone have information on this car?

This is my first turbo car so don't bash me

That is one sick EVO, as for your question im just gonna say the turbo probably had some play in it, was blown or he is upgrading it (bigger).

Did you ask him why it was getting a new turbo?

Also y not just purchase a lighly modded one or a complete stock evo and just build your own beast. The first evo i bought (08 mr) was i believe re-flashed and then un-flashed (08 mr trannys are **** and cant handle more then like 300 350 wtrq i believe correct me if im wrong). Drove it 30 miles and the tranny blew. So from my expreience its just best to buy a new or stock used car, because u never no how the previous owner drove the car.

I don't know the car, but I'll ask a friend from Portland what he knows.

The turbo could need replacement for tons of reasons. I'd ask the seller. Have your inspector verify that the part number for the turbo matches what is supposed to come with the turbo kit that was listed in the auction.

I didn't ask him over the phone. I will in an email. This is the manual GSR not the auto MR.

Yes i am aware of that, I was just giving you an example of why I dont trust modded cars that are being sold. I was lucky and the dealership took the car back and offered me a 2010 gsr brand new for what i paid on the 08 mr.

Good luck w/ whatever decison you make, but like i said i think you should just buy a new evo and make your own beast. Plus buying parts and installing them yourself is the best thing in the world, next to watching your car on the dyno.

I would if I had an extra 30K laying around to put into a 35K car.

that is one sick car. hard to believe there isnt a shop sponsor or local shop in portland that cannot verify everything is mechanically on the up and up on this car.

Maybe try to find out where he got all the work done and see if they can inspect the car?

I know where he got all the work done, but he is friends with guys that work there. So I don't want there biased opinion. That kinda made me sound like an *******. But I don't want to make a 33K mistake.

seems shady to me at first glance...

needs a new turbo? why, what happened?

all that money spent on the car but...
-still on stock wheels
-it looks like a 12 year old took a drill and some bolts to put on that splitter
-the wire loom in the engine bay looks like garbage
-it would be hard to fit any more stickers on it without overlapping another sticker

also,
i dont see the "AMS valve cover"

it says AMS intercooler kit, but those look like UR pipes to me

someone asked if it would pass CA smog, and he said yes. now i dont live in CA, but i highly doubt this thing would pass emissions when there is nothing on it close to being factory. CA peeps, please correct me if i'm wrong.

the last 3 pics dont even appear to be that car. the third one from the bottom has red overspray (its supposed to be a white car?), the last 2 look like stock pictures from a car website.

some of these things may sound petty, but most people who dump +$30k in mods into a car, have some attention to detail. the parts sound quality, but it would be hard to verify some of these claims like the built block, clutch specs, etc without seeing documentation of purchase and installation.

pass...

I was looking at this car earlier thinking the same things X was. The last photo shows two added gauge pods above the steering column, then the two before that (The two interior shots) there's nothing there. You can pick up a low mileage single owner X for around 25k... I'd go that route and save the dough. But then again this is just IMO.

This was his reply about the turbo. I agree about the 3 pictures.

The turbo I had was a prototype that AMS had me test and give my opinion on. It essence it was the same 750r turbo with a different turbine. The one that is going in is a brand new off the shelf 750r. I will have all the documentation and on the new blower including the testing to show she is in perfect condition.
