Ok, we all could agree that we have seen or heard of the evo somewhere before we wanted it.
The first time I heard of an evo was when I was a child from my dad. He's a world traveler due to his occupation: ship mechanical engineer.
He told me about the evo when he went to Japan, I must have been about 6 yrs old.
But the moment that I really wanted to have an evo was when I watched the movie by jackie chan "who am I?"
The evo 5 in the movie was just so damn badass that I wanted to have it! Now I have an evo X.
So where or how did u learn of the evo Series that made u want to own one?

I'd have to say the first time I had heard of an Evo was back in the mid-90's, right around the time when Gran Turismo came out for the original Playstation. At that point, the only cars Mitsubishi had here that were exciting were DSMs and Legendary 3000GT VR-4 (GTO). GT actually opened my eyes to other JDM cars we didn't get here like the STi 22B, Integra/Civic type R, and R32/33/34 Skyline GT-R. I really think games like GT gave those cars the exposure needed for a US debut.
I remember seeing an VIII for the first time in May 2003 in South Florida. It made no sense to me. "No leather?" I thought lol. It didn't look like a $30k car should. Then a year later, Sport Compact Car named it the greatest out of 100 and I knew I had to have one some day.

first time i heard an evo at a rally.
In person everything is a LOT different
when i came to the USA, i missed the ALS sounds soooo loooong. For me, there is nothing can beat the ALS and whoos and pops when you shift what the rally evo does, to create rally music.
there is no way video can give you a perfect feed back sadly, you have to see it in person.
I know, i am sooo biased ... LOL

After learning about the EVO when I was about 8 years old, I just kept it in my brain but not cared about it too much till I had the chance to drive an EVO VI (rally modded) at the end of 13 then I was obsessed with EVOs and after 10 years of driving the EVO VI (rally modded) I was able to afford and score a 10 MR Touring.

back in the 90s..... wishing my DSM was one. When they arrived stateside, I immediately bought a 8. When "concept X" was leaked, I thought it was beautiful... then I learned that the 4G63 was being replaced & wrote the X off. Went shopping for a IX, test drove both it & the X.... chose the X over the IX. The rest is history. Love this car. Love all generations really... my favorite is the 6.5 TME though.

Never heard of an Evo before the XIII came out, but when I did see one for the first time, I wanted one so bad. I remember when I had just bought a brand new, black G35 and I saw a gray Evo XIII parked close to my car. I knew right away that the Evo was what I really wanted, but alas, I had just bought the G35. Ever since then I have loved Evos.
