30K mile/48K km service cost
well, i just got back from the dealer. i'm at 40k km right now but i decided to preempt the service so i don't pay all at once.
transfer case
brakes
rear axle
oil change
inspection
$460 canadian +tax. the service guy i dealt with was a cool guy and gave me a little discount, but it's still expensive as hell. 2/3 of the cost was labour. really makes me wish i knew how to do this stuff and had the equipment.
sst and AYC service will be when i actually hit 48K km. that's gonna run another $400 +tax.
i'll post the itemized cost if anyone is interested when i get a chance. the brake service i think was most of the labour.
so this service in total will run close to $1000 canadian. the dealer normally charges $1300 for this service package...which is just retarded.

In all truth, I don't mind paying a fair price for service. I don't own a lot of tools, I have no lift and lying on my back on a cement floor isn't something I'm happy to do, I have no real experience doing mechanical work and I'm certainly not going to put my life on the line as I hang-10 around a corner, and my time has a defined value. Then there's the collection and disposal of fluids, personal aggravation, etc. Add it all together, and having someone else do the work is not such a bad deal.

Dealership service is kinda goofy imo..
Synthetic oil-change at my dealership, and at my local tire shop is over $80
But I can bring in my own $35 Mobile-1 fully-synth and $5 mitsu filter & drain-plug gasket and the same dealership and tire shop only charges me around $11.
