I used the redline cocktail from maperformance and it eliminated the grinds and notchyness so my vote is for the cocktail.

I've had pretty good luck with Amsoil in the cold. It still has problems when really cold, but I just let it warm up and then take it really easy for the first 5 miles or so.

It really sounds like Mitsubishi screwed up the tranny on the X. I've used redline, Mobil, royal purple, and motul in other cars and never had a problem when cold! Seem like it's just a tight or notchy syncro problem. More profound in the X than the VIII and IX. The solution to this problem is not really clear. Some found luck in the cocktail others have found motul or amsoil to work but then others are using the same and still no luck. Guess we gotta try different solutions to see what works best individually. Cheers to you all!

Same Problem - Takes me's multiple tries every morning since it's been in the 30's to put the car in reverse. Everything is fine once it's warmed up
