Question about cold shifts

May be repeated somewhere but is anyone finding an issue with first to second gear shifting in temps from 30 to 40 degrees out. My car almost refuses to go in gear unless I granny shift it! Once car is at normal running temps it's fine! Suggestions on tranny fluids to use or additives that may better the situation!

I got the same problem man. I just drive easy until it warms up. I'm doin a short shifter and will be swapping the fluids soon. Hopefully it will help make it smoother. I only got 15k miles

I prefer using synthetic everything because its viscosity holds up better under extreme conditions and loads! Was gonna get some motul or amsoil for the trans rear and transfer case. Any thoughts of those

I run amsoil in the trans and it is a much bigger handful when trying to shift when it's really cold out. In 40* weather it takes about 10 miles of sustained driving to get it up to temp and in the summer time it's notchy not for nearly as long as in the winter time.

Amsoil is great and I recommend it. Just be prepared for the things I described.

On another note, I ran oem trans fluid for the viii and ix's and it was super smooth shifting when cold but high load and rpm shifts were notchy.

I'd prefer to baby it when cold and have a fluid that protects than one that is comfortable all the time but doesnt do it's job in extreme conditions.

Redline MT90 and let it work itself into the gears and synchs for a few 100 miles and you'll have better shifting in all temperatures.

CocktailX...everything else is too thick and will cause cold shifting to be worse.

Mine won't 1-2 fast in cold either. But I'm way too chicken to mix fluids in my tranny. I just let it warm longer and deal with it.

Use Redline MT-85 they inpart made it for Evos because MT-90 is too viscous at low temp. I use MT-90 but thats because I got it a few years ago when there was no MT-85
P.S. MT-90 is fine after 5 minutes or so, but if i could I would rather have MT-85

First winter when I had my X I had the same thing. About halfway through it I installed Works SS and all the bushings. Also did the gate pivot bushing & redline cocktail. It shifts great now. Took off the short shifter later due to preference.

I have a short shifter and I still experience some rough shifting in the morning. It's fine in about 5 mins though. I use AMSoil and I think that's what makes it rough to shift when it is really cold. I would just shift easy until it warms up. I don't hit boost until I have been driving atleast 15 mins when it is cold anyway. Just make sure everything is warmed up and it's fine. I think people that use Redline tranny fluid don't complain about this problem.

When my car was new I had a notchy shifting problem going from 1st to 2nd and 3rd. After I had my car dyno tuned, the notchy shifting went away. It’s been smooth as can be since then, even in freezing cold temperatures.

MT-85 was made to match the viscosity requirements of DSM and Evo VIII/IX 5-speed transmissions, not the X 5-speed. The cocktailX blend is a much better match for the X's spec.

-Redline MTL (2 quarts)
-Redline MT-90 (1 quart)

Straight MT-90 and Amsoil 75W-90 are too thick and will be notchier than stock when cold.

Here's my current setup, I've tried a lot and here's what I've settled on as the "best":
-WORKS short shifter
-WORKS Grab shift knob
-WORKS console bushings (the Torque Solution ones are also nice, and easier to install)
-WORKS underhood bushings
-AMS gate selector bushing (the Torque Solution one is also nice, and easier to install)
-Redline cocktailX transmission fluid
-clutch restrictor pill removed
