Who's running their Evo X nearly stock and loving it?

ive gota 2011 and have a drop in filter, turbo inlet, uicp, test pipe, exhaust and a 3-port and im happily at ~350 whp on 93. Very cheap to achieve that kind of power. stock intercooler, stock licp. stock airbox. stock down pipe.

we just did a basic 2010 MR yesterday-
Client had stock cat- 3" turboback, Intake, 3 port (we use pieburg) and we did a retune-
322whp/296wtq at only 25.0 psi- 11.5 AFR-
very nice power for the investment!
we LOVE the X's!

I bought my Evo new last august, since then I've put around 7800 miles on it. I have similar intentions with the car because I'm a college student, cant afford mods, and cant afford fixing the problem that arise from modding lol.
Only mods ive dont to the car include RA mud flaps, WORKS short throw, Catback and other little stuff (see in my sig).
Dont care what people say but i LOVE THIS CAR! Driving a stock Evo is NOT as bad as every one hypes it up to be. You get the best of both worlds - the handling - along with the ability to not cringe every time you find your self on a ****ty road. Dont get me wrong, in a few years, when my Evo has a garage to sleep in every night I will then go mod crazy and have a more suitable DD. Till then the highlight of my day is getting to and from my destinations.

I am stock except for a Cobb Accessport- stage 1, and an HKS panel filter. My car is a blast to drive and very reliable after 25k miles. Although even simple mods can cause issues. I just replaced the MAF for the second time and will be going to the stock Mitsu filter this weekend to avoid blowing a third.
I would try cosworth. I avoided HKS for that reason. Cosworth has no oil and cant be oiled, I am guessing thats whats killing your MAF.

I've got an hks drop in and so far so good with my '11. 18k miles and counting. I don't think the hks filter is oiled though I could be wrong? My 08 on the other hand..I had to put 2 mafs in that with the hks filter.

Cosworth has a very good reputation for great filtering while still improving flow.

That's just fine since you like it better that way, (at least I hope so since you bought it like that lol) but the point I was trying to make is that unlike in japan (think about the JDM RS) here in north america too few makers offer a "basic model with all the performance options".
And that makes me sad since less weight = more fun
That's the main reason as to why I chose an X over other cars in the same price range.

I'm really glad it could be ordered as an option on the GSR, I mean you really have to look hard nowadays to find a car where you can get all the performance options without having to pick out a package that includes leather, nav, sunroof, etc.
Love the fact that the only options on my GSR are those that makes it go faster, handle and stop better!
If only more manufacturers would offer something similar on their cars...

When I was talking about reliability after mods, of course I wasn't talking about things like mud flaps, the awful shift boot, tints, even lowering. All those things are not going to affect reliability. Of course I intend to do all those things to my Evo. I was mainly talking about power mods. That's what breaks things.
However, I'm with Robevo. I think that tuning the stock Evo after it has been broken is the way to go. Squeeze a bit more HP from the stock parts and call it a day.
I intend to track the car, and that means I need to have racing pads (and likely rotors to match them). But that's all easy simple stuff that I can remove after the track day with an hour or two.
The main worry with these cars is that it's a 4-cyl. You can squeeze all the power you want out of that 4-cyl, but it's going to be more stressed out than a V8 with some bolt-ons. (You guys might have seen my Corvette vs Evo X thread - Exactly my point). That explains all the broken engines.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. If you want to build a race car, the stuff will break. That's all good. It's what race cars do.

That has nothing too do with modding it is a a results of use or tge quality of the work has been done. You can make a stock engine blowing up too very easy.

Unfortunately and all too often, less-than-stellar mod paths are chosen resulting in unhappy owners and cars with 'For Sale' threads.

Never look around how they got there.
Basic rules are
get a quality proven parts
build a balanced engine ( not the peak performance the most importany)
Dont try to reinvent the engine even the evo. You and your crew is not smarter then the evo engeneers.
Get a reilable tuner with a good reputation.
Then you will be fine with your build.
Other then that, you just do open a can of worm. And the money you "save" will bite your ***.

I do personally believe the less you modify a car the happier you'll be in the long run....However, that is not going to stop me. 400whp is really nothing these days, but I want close to stock spool and better top-end, since the stock turbo feels like doo doo on the highway.
That being said, my post was arguing the fact that if you keep modding you'll always want more, thus never being happy with the car. When you keep it stock or close to stock, and are enjoying it, why ruin that?...duh
