Used Evo values and why you should keep your car

Just spent a couple minutes looking at IX's on autotrader - it's really sad how badly modified most of them are, not to mention that finding one with a stock exhaust and badges is completely impossible.

I recently sold my 06 GG IX for $25,500 that had almost 58,000 miles. I also sold an additional set of wheels from it for $850 which put $26,350 in my pocket.
I shortly after picked up an 11 GG X SS package with 17,200 miles for just over $26,000+++++++++(taxes, fees, license, etc....)
The big difference is the mods on my IX. $5K of carbon earo including AMS roof and hood, Ohlins and a little of everything else.
I am happy with the change. I was finished with the IX. The X is comfortable and actually has some luxury.

My wife thinks I'm weird for searching periodically to see what the value of Evos are but I've definitely noticed the price of the 8s and 9s staying flat and even going up some since I bought mine in 2009. Part of that I think is due to the economy, but I paid $12K for my 03 in Aug. 2009 with 76K on it and good luck finding one at that price now that doesn't have a rebuilt title or a blown motor. With my new baby here I've considered selling it lately but the rising prices of used Evos is what's keeping from doing it. I'm afraid that if I let this one go, I may not be able afford another one for a very long time.

I'm in a simlar position as Noize, but instead of thinking of getting an older evo, I've been considering getting a new one. I actually got a great deal on my new X. I got a 2008 GSR with SSS for under $28k + TTT @ 0%. Four years and 30k miles later, I'm sure I can get $26k for, and I only owe about $12k. Not bad!
I'm seriously considering selling it and buying a brand new X. If I can get a similar deal, I'd basically be able to back to 0 miles, restart my warranty, and get 4 years of upgrades for $2000. Considering it'll cost at least half that difference to fix the differential pins if they ever go out, I'm really tempted to do this. As long as I don't have issues with the transfer case, time's on my side as my payment rate far out paces my depreciation rate. With the 2012's showing up, it should be pretty easy to get a bargain on the 2011's soon. Any idea if Mitsu will release more X's in 2013?
edit: meant noize (OP), not hiboost

Also, you might be rightside up by $14,000 now, but you put that toward $31000, that's still an $18,500 loan including TTL on the new car.
So, in the best case scenario, you get a full $26k for selling your car (Not sure if that could happen, but haven't seen your car), the non SS 2011 doesn't have HIDs at that price, and you're increasing your overall debt $6500 for essentially the same car. Totally not worth it to me at all. To do it with an SS, it would be $8500 more. Yuck.

The dealer I bought my X from recently sent me a letter offering to pay "up to" $29,500 for my 2008 Evo X GSR. Granted, this letter is so I will go to their dealership in the hope that I will sell/trade-in my X for a new one. Considering my note is 0% for 60 months, and I LOVE my car, they will have a difficult time getting me into a new car.. unless it's one helluva deal!

I would probably invest in a used 2012 evo x, fully loaded with leather and sunroof and nav. and keep it stock for as long as i can
Reason behind it, last model year of a turbo (non-hybrid) EVO,
performance of a gasoline evo,
have all the problems worked out on this generation( for the most part)
Incase the next gen is a failure in performance and sales, leading to a complete discontinuation of the evolutions.
having all the luxuries, will retained and attract value from broader potential buyers in the future.
all this will help retain the value of private buyers since it has the least amount of risk(out of the08-12 model years) and not be so outdated when being sold in the future.
Just like any discontinued vehicle, the last model year is normally the most saught out for. the 98 supras, 96 impalla SS, 2001s R34, ect. also the 06 EVO IX with the last 4g63, incase you really wanted that direction.
