Hood shake in wind?

I have never done the hood latch recall, but it's my understanding that the recall is because the release will fail and the hood will become stuck closed. My hood release is a bit stiff, but it releases everytime no problem.

What I am concerned about is the fact the hood shakes a little on the interstate. I don't think it's going to pop up, but I would like if it stayed down better at speed. I passed a semi the other day, and it got spooky for a second.

Anyone else have this issue? Is it easy to adjust?

I'm original owner, hood alignment looks fine, and car has never been wrecked.

Thanks!

I've never seen this issue with my car and wasn't even aware of any recalls on the hood latch. But my hood has always opened when I pull the release. Hopefully someone can chime in with a better understanding of this issue or someone who has the same issue as you. Also I drive way over american highway speeds with no vibrating/lifting of the hood.

As far as I know, the hood latch release recall was only for the 2008s. The hood latch was very tough to pull and the was a number of them that broke off. My dealer actually replaced a couple under warranty before the recall because they realized how tough it was to open.

That being said, ive never seen anything like that before on my car. Something is defintiely off. I would think there has to be a way to adjust it. Maybe the latch that hooks on the hood is loose or something. Has it always done this? Or is it something that is getting worse?

Check all the bolts. I've never seen excessive hood movement in any Evo.

+1 you should be able to just tighten all the bolts. I did the recall on my hood latch but only because it was really stiff. I have a 2008 and I believe it was only on that year...

2008. Is there supposed to be a little front to back play in the latch?

The six back bolts seemed really tight. I probably got a quarter turn on the four top ones and stopped so they didn't become unreasonably tight.

I took a video of the play in the latch and will share when YouTube finishes processing it. Will test tomorrow and capture a vid if problem persists.

Noize, yes there is a little bit of play in the latch, its normal. If you look in the corners (front) under the hood the little black bushings that cushion the trunk when closed can be TURNED to adjust them upward, turn these to pre-load the closed hood and waaaazing, no more hood shake.

Pssh, WINNING!!!
That was it exactly, my friend. The right side was turned down lower than the left for some reason. Preload is uniform now, and I can't shake the hood by hand anymore.

PM me if you're ever in Nashville. Your lunch is on me! Thanks a ton.

I'm going to have to try this. I have the same problem Noize had, with mine. I thought my hood was going to open.....I had never took the hood off at any time but I guess the dealership could have. Thanks!!

Mine was definitely the black rubber feet in the front. Either myself, a friend, heck- maybe one of the kids, or even a person at the dealership before I bought it twisted one in a little bit.

Set them uniform so the hood closes snugly but still aligns with the fenders, and the shake will be gone for good. I went much faster than what will normally make it shimmy today, and nothing.
