Hey guys,

I know a few people around town with evo's but nobody is running the setup that I am looking for. It is time to upgrade my exhaust and I am simply going catback for now until I am ready for a tune.

All I have as reference is the videos that are posted on youtube, etc. I understand sound is a question of taste, but just looking for opinions on what is matching my criteria.

I am looking obviously for single exit, somewhat on the loud side but nothing that attract our uniform buddies. Something that really has a deep sound and screams when going wot. I've read my fair share of reviews on both exhausts and I see that people seem to think the Tomei is more quiet than the AMS.

Anyone with experience from both or either/or exhausts is welcome to share their thoughts with me.

Pulled over 3x with tomei ... Twice while just idling off a light shifting at 2k :s

 

AMS is loud at anything close to WOT. very loud...of course that's with a DP and no cat...

 

Are you gonna be running the stock cat or testpipe/HFC?

Have you thought about Greddy or Ark Performance?

I would think the AMS one would be good for what you are looking for with the stock cat, but the Ark exhaust is about the same with a testpipe. Check out their YouTube videos..

 

As mentioned, it will be catback for now until I am ready for a tune. In which case I will add the downpipe and probably a HFC

 

I have a AMS Widemouth DP, T1R Resinated TP and the Tomei Expreme and i love it. I wanted something louder then stock but not so loud that its annoying. I didnt want drone or rasp and sure enough this setup won. Not to mention it lost a total weight of ~46lbs from the car (DP= -1lb, TP = 9lbs and Tomei = -36lbs)

Both options are going to get you a lot of attention from your uniform buddies, sorry

I have a buddy with the AMS and 3 with the Tomei and they all have gotten tickets for exhaust

 

man the cops must be dicks or your buddies must got a heavy foot. I've never been pulled over in my Evo. I got pulled over by the MP's on thursday night for my tint but i told them the city police dont bother me about it because i dont act like a retard. They didnt give me a ticket, warning or tell me to take it off

 

I have the Tomei with straight test pipe, Not that loud under normal driving.

 

How loud is it with stock downpipe and stock cat? Question applies for both exhausts...

I am just wondering how much louder it is with a test pipe

 

If you are really set on these two exhausts, I would go with Tomei.. It's lighter and titanium.. It also sounds great.

Both of them are going to be loud, as they have only one muffler and no resonators..

in so cal anything that doesn't look like stock will get a ticket from cops. they just want to waste your time.

i knew a guy that had a stock 05 sti and he got a exhaust ticket. STOCK. He was a marine too so no fellow civil servant love either.

 

wow thats gay as ****. I got 5% tint all around, tinted tails and my exhaust set up and i have never been botherd by the cops (except the MP's the other night) I hate the city im posted to but i like the cops here. If you dont act like a retard on the streets, they leave you alone. This is the only reason i want to be posted here.

 

I am set on a single exit, and those two were the most appealing in terms of sound...

Is it a big difference in sound Having a test pipe?
