Test pipe vs. Resonated Test pipe
For anyone who's had both: Is there any power loss from going resonated? In what way will it alter the exhaust note? Which sounds better?
Do resonated test pipes have a restriction in the resonator? Will it still shoot fire?
Thanks

My friend has a resonated and I've heard a regular test pipe before on our cars and the resonated will be a little quieter than a regular test pipe so its all about your preference. And power loss will be really minimal I'd say maybe like 5 whp or less nothing really big unless your looking to squeeze every little bit out of your setup. It will probably still spit flames and yes there is a restriction because it is resonated, its not a fully open test pipe.
I'm also thinking about going with a test pipe or maybe even a high flow cat if its too much of a risk with the smell, black smoke, loudness, attention etc. Only thing is I have a Borla cat back and I don't know if I should stick with the cat delete they sell since its all the same size at 2.75 inch or go with high flow from AMS or ETS, but they're 3 inches so it might be a problem...

resonated test pipe the way to go. Very minimal power loss, but much quieter and as you like also shoot flames. But i have to say with catalic converter in the exhaust with a right tune set up the car shoot flames also. Its an evo "curse" ... LOL
i would def. go with resonated pipe vs plane piping.

Just got my ETS test pipe installed and the car didn't get much louder at all, I was really surprised AND the car actually sounds good, yes you read that right, the evo actually sounds good and not like a vacuum cleaner anymore. A resonated test pipe would have super minimal loses, Id say not even 3whp ! Cant go wrong with it

Grow some, just go with the test pipe. ETS works great and sounds good. Ive had mine for a while now. The car is loud, just deal with it. Who cares? It's supposed to be loud, it's part of the package if you don't like loud maybe this is not the car for you. Just embrace it. I feel like psychiatrist.

P.s there is no power loss to the resonated test pipe as long as the pipe is perforated core!!Buy the megan one great piece.
If it looks like this inside then your good..Look you can see there's no restriction in flow,it just dampens the noise levels a tad ..http://www.streettunedmotorsports.co..._race_pipe.htm

yeah i have a neighbor who's running a test pipe on his 240sx and i dont really like the sound when he drives by, he sounds like a big *** lawnmower. I'd imagine an evo would sound similar since it's also a 4banger.
I was thinking (hoping) the resonator would muffle some of that and leave the deep, bassy sound.

I think my exhaust sounds better with a test pipe. Little louder. Did some video to get the sound to share here is the best one.
