Breaking in new Evo X? Questions
Finally ready to pull the trigger on my Evo x just wondering if you guys had any tips on breaking it in like anything specific
It's a GSR
Should I drive it soft for first few hundred klicks
How long is a good break in period
How long should I wait until I can floor it or take some hard corners
First oil change should be when
Any other tips would be great! Thanks to all
So excited but I wanna get this stuff perfectly right don't care how many questions I have to ask lol, first Evo and first Mitsubishi, and only my second standard transmission car

I followed the owners instructions and took it easy for awhile. I changed my oil @ 1k miles. There are all sorts of debates about whether one can beat on a car from the get go or break it in per manufacturers recommendations. As hard as it was to stay out of boost and a higher rev limit, I took it easy for the first 600 miles.

Don't beat on it for Atleast the first 600-1000 miles. Everybody has a different opinion on how to break one in. Some say it's not needed at all. My suggestion would be to read the owners manual.
Some people say not to change the oil until like 3000 miles because it has some "special additives" or something to help break it in. I changed the oil at 1300.
My suggestion since it is your second manual, would be not to launch it. Or atleast for a LONG time. You cant just drop the clutch like a Honda or something. You dont want to blow up any expensive drivetrain parts. Don't slip the clutch that much. make sure you are all the way in gear before giving it some real gas. The Evo is a heavy AWD car with lots of power and can burn thru a clutch very quickly if not driven correctly. Make sure and get comfortable and learn the clutch before beating on it.

I was not sure how to break mine in also. But before i knew it I had over 1k miles on it. I didnt go over 5K until close to 600 miles and down shifted often and tried to fluctuate the rpms. And I havent gone over 6k really ever. Not sure if thats good or bad but on the stock Evo there is no point going over 6K because you really have no power gains.

Everyone does it different. Some people baby it till x miles, some people say you break it in like how you will drive it.
I did a little bit of both up to about 600 miles. I think the manual says 600 if i remember correctly. I'm at a little over 800 miles in mine but I drove about 220 miles from picking up the car. If you pick up your car far away take a couple of stops so you're not at a constant speed and rpms the whole way back.
For the oil change, I'm probably going to change it around 1k or 1.5k, then every 3k after that.

If it has ever been on a test drive, it's already broke in.
Ring seating happens first 20 mins after the car has been warmed up, and more than likely, like Honda, they have probably already broken in the motor on a dyno.

It doesn't matter if u beat on it or not, what matters is u change the oil at 500miles, only coz there will be shredded metal/aluminum in the oil for when the moving internals seat in. U don't want those shredded particles circulating in ur engine.

I went easy for the first 500miles, varied rpm's and never went over 4k rpm. At 500miles I did an oil change to Brad Penn motor oil and have been pushing her since. About to do my 3500mile oil change since I took a long trip south. Keep in mind its a brand new car so you're not breaking in only the block, your breaking in the diffs, tranny, suspension, steering, tires and the speakers.
