Car takes 5+ sec to start after heavy rain

Hi everyone, I drive a EVO X SE and I recently moved to Florida.

The car was bought brand new in 2011 and it now has around 9k miles on it.

I have encounter some problem lately due to heavy rains, usually after some heavy rain, my car seems to have trouble starting up, it takes about 5+sec for it to start up, usually it takes 1sec.

Are there anything I can do to prevent this?

Please let me know thanks!

My 370z has this issue but a bit more severe after heavy Florida rains. I have a cold air intake though.

So what do you do?

Avoid driving right after heavy rain?

Will there be any damages? Seems like rain is getting through the hood vents.

Won't cause permanent damage but it could be dangerous if your car bogs down when you're on the road. I really can't avoid not driving it myself it's my only car, if it happens it happens. I basically just pray I can make it home, only had an issue when I had to stop the car 2 times and wait like 10-15 minutes and limp it home.

Do you have an aftermarket intake on your car?

Nope, I have no mods at all, all stock.

I was always wondering where that water goes under the hood

Take it to the dealership, maybe they'll have a reflash for you.
