I have a feeling a lot of that deer is not usable and the meat was pretty bruised up.

Thank you everyone for the condolences. Just got done speaking with the body shop and they told me that it shouldn't be totaled, but they were waiting on confirmation from the insurance adjuster. I'm really crossing my fingers that its not. They said the big things I had going for me would be that I just have the halogen headlights and not the projectors, and that the airbags didn't go off. Guy at the shop told me if that had happened, it would probably be done for good. But I'm fairly optimistic about it.

As soon as I get some more updates, I'll post in here and let everyone know the outcome. Until then I'm crossing my fingers and praying!

Well spoke with insurance adjuster. It seems that the vehicle shouldn't be totaled. He did mention around $13k in damages though. He said he'd get back to me later on today and give me the full run down on what's needed.

So, the official total damage estimate is $8,403.27. I'll upload a list of what's being repaired/replaced when I get a chance.

On a side note, anyone know if I'm eligible to get diminished value from a deer/animal strike?

Check the fine-print of your policy. You often can't get diminished value from your own insurance when it was an SCA (single-car accident).

Damn, that's a lot of damage. More than likely would have been totaled if you hit head on. Glad you and your wife are ok!

I am sorry a deer took your car out.
I live in WV and work at night. It makes me mad when the DNR refuses to up the hunting quotas on deer hunting. On a good night especially if the weather is changing I dodge 20 to 30 deer.

Well, got another call from the body shop yesterday. New body parts are on the car and it's going into paint this morning when they open up. they're still waiting on headlights because I guess they're on back-order, but they said that I should have it by Wed-Thu of next week! When I get it back I'll post up pics ect.

I want to thank everyone for their condolences, honestly I know its great that me and the wifey are ok, but I couldn't help but freak out about the car. Not to mention it's the first accident I've been in where I was driving. Freaked me out and was hard to drive this week without flipping out on every little thing that was going on around me. Also, this has been the first time that I have avidly driven the speed limit constantly.
