Considering purchasing an evo
Hey guys! So I'm highly considering getting a 2010+ evo mr. I've liked the evo look since I paid attention to them in 2005. It was when the x came out with paddle shifters that really made me interested. So I've had a 2003 subie wrx, a 2009 wrx, and now I'm driving a 2007 jeep wrangler 4dr rubicon for the past 2 1/2 years. I find myself wanting something a little more practical; better mpg then my 13mpg jeep lol.. I want something a little more mature; wingless mr.. And the automatic with paddle shifters is a must because the California traffic in the wrx's sucked.
So I'm looking for the pros and cons from mr drivers.. I plan on possibly test driving an mr next week, but are they decently quiet? My soft top jeep is so loud lol. How about all this talk on maintenance fees. My dad has a shop and I've always done my own maintenance except for transmission. Which I understand is pretty pricey on this car lol
I guess I'm just looking to be pushed over the fence one way or another! Thanks in advance for any imput guys!

Overall the issues with the Evo seem to be the chain stretch in the 08-10's I believe. I'm not exactly sure when Mitsu upgraded the chain. I think it was during the 2011 model. Also in the northern states some have had the AWD pump go out on them but this doesnt seem to be much of an issue in the south. Also some have had issues with their CMC.
The main thing to consider with the MR is that if you have transmission issues, it can get pretty costly to repair.

I own a GSR and an MR Touring. The GSR was also insulated with yards of dynamat. The stock MR-T is significantly quieter, and I dynamatted that too. Some of the major interior differences is finish surface (MR is glossy dash and soft-touch door materials) and the MR center console is more akin to Lexus, where compartments are placed behind doors.

Keep in mind any used Evo runs a risk of reliability issues, especially the MR. You just will not know how it was taken care of or driven by the previous owner. He may have launched the sh*t out of it, and then decided to trade it in.

Ya that's definitely a worry of mine buying used.. That's why I'm looking for completely stock with under 20k miles in hopes that they drove it respectably as I intend to do.. Well to an extent lol the problem is also that there is not to many used 2010+ on the market so it's kind of a waiting game too, but ya that was my worry as well when purchasing the subarus. Thanks for all the info!

Again thanks everyone for all the info.. There's nobody better to find out the pros and cons from than an actual owner as I've learned the pros and cons of owning several different cars over the years

Yes it is.
Without building a block, you can still hit 400s but the closer you get to 400 torque, you will need to look into a new clutch pack as the SST clutches might break on you. I had a 2010 Mr Touring and loved the thing, I am picking up a '14 gsr this time around to change things up.
SST is amazing, never had any problems with it. You might get the "overheat" message when trying to launch and you might have to just let it sit there for a couple of minutes and then you will be fine.
Keep in mind that the SST maintenance is high $$$ as the fluid they use is "rare".

Also if those clutches start going out on you and you are modded or out of warranty, it can get really expensive. Another thing to consider is if you ever decide to sell that Evo a few years down the line, some people may shy away from a MR with high mileage because of the cost associated with the transmission repair.
If you want a MR then go for a MR. Do not settle. Just make sure you fully think it out.

Not just the fluid, but the car itself will cost more. I was looking at the MR, but for the most part I didn't care if I had a stick or auto. I ended up getting another GSR nicely loaded for what a base model MR cost.
