Exhaust smell in cabin with defroster on

Hi all,

On Friday I had a wideband and boost gauge installed. Since then, I am noticing an exhaust smell in the cabin of the car when the defroster is on. I have never had this before until after the installation.

Any suggestions? I contacted the shop and will wait for their response, but figured I post up here ahead of time to pick some minds.

thanks

If you can, take a look at where they installed the o2 bung for the wideband's o2 sensor and check for an exhaust leak.

Think about it this way, they have to drill a hole in the exhaust to put that sensor in, what if they didn't weld all the way around and there's a leak there. Exhaust gases rise up along the firewall and out the top edge of the hood and into your AirCon vent.

thanks.
I swung by the shop an they took it for a test drive and smelled it.

They said one of the gaskets is not sealing on the exhaust so they are ordering a new one.

he said it is ok to drive around a bit with the leak

I am so proud to be an American right now. Our educational system is the best in the world. Yeah, I could cite such things as the number of non-US nationals applying to our graduate schools, but that will probably just remind most of you of that TA you had who couldn't speak English. So, instead, I'll use the quote above and point out the logical implication: some of our car-mechanics have MDs.

Understandable with that. I have had the sunroof cracked and windows down most the time since the smell is obvious at idle/stop. not so much cruising.

Just keep in mind that pre-cat exhaust fumes are 10 to 100 times as bad as post-cat fumes.

And CO is odorless to humans.

understandable....which is why I have been on top of the shop. Already been a week and the gasket is still not in. Getting a bit frustrated here since (at least in my opinion) this is not a light issue.

Cold mornings and I either run the heat and have to deal with exhaust fumes or freeze.
