Changing my evo x seats.
Hi all I have a 2010 evo x that I love the only thing I have an issue with is the seats I think there amazing just I am a bigger guy and dont fit in it right. I was wondering if anyone on here has changed there seats and if so what seats did you go with? I am looking for bucket seats just with out the high sides that my seats have now. So if anyone can give me some advise on which seats would fit best please let me know. Thank you

If you're a bigger guy, it's going to be hard to find racing seats. The more expensive ones are going to be just as, if not more agressive than the OEM because they're truly intended for racing and safety. Look in to Evo IX seats. They're not quite as tight and won't look super out of place.

Close enough, but please let me elaborate. The regular FX1 is 19" wide, the "Pro" is 18" wide, and the "Wide" is 20" wide. These are great entry-level racing seats and allow you to wear a helmet without craning your neck forward, but they will start to annoy you very quickly in a daily driver. Why? Because race seat. Getting in and out is not as simple as with low-sided seats and hard hits will get you in the spine unless you use a harness to maintain correct posture.

I have been DD MY X now for 2 months and have developed a lower back issue. At first I didn't think of the seats but after reading this thread I'm wondering. I am also a bigger guy. Any useful suggestions?

I'm not that big, but I feel your pain. Literally. Besides your back, the other question is whether you autocross or do open track ... i.e., do you ever wear a helmet in the car. I was going to have the bars in the lower part of the OE seats bent outwards to be more comfy, but only if I could bend the headrest back at the same time, to make it possible to wear a helmet without having to crane my neck forward. When it became clear that bending the headrest would most likely fail, making it impossible to sell or even use the OE seats again, I went aftermarket.
A shell seat (e.g., Corbeau FX1) is nice, but really requires that you be held into it firmly. That means using the harness all the time. Even then, a thin layer of padding between you and the shell isn't all that comfy. But if you're willing to do this, I've always felt better when racing in a shell-based seat than a tube frame.
Anyhoo, you're not in the middle of nowhere, so here's my serious suggestion: go and sit in some seats. There's a great book on race-driving that starts with several chapters on comfort and I completely agree. For autocrossing and road-racing, I now swear by the idea that the top three mods are tires, shocks, and then your seat. Keeping your elbows and wrists loose adds grip.
(Wow, that was a rambling post, wasn't it? Need coffee.)
edit: "how do I know?" I often take detours onto unpaved roads, especially when I need a mood enhancement; I didn't slip my arms into the harness and just went with the OE belt; I wasn't in the right posture, hit a jump, and just about snapped my spine ... stupid, stupid, stupid

Sparco Evo 3 best big boy seat out there if you want a good seat with a lot of support. I had this in my 06 WRX. I am 6-1 280 with big sholders and legs from football. I fit in the stock seats fine but the evo 3 would probably fit you better if you don't. Its also pretty comfy for DD driving I had it in my car for 2 years and even drove to vegas and back from southern California with it in the car.
