Grooves inside rotors?

Just did my 2nd oil change on the evo, 6000 miles, and i noticed these grooves/scrapes on the inside rotors. No racing or track time yet, just daily/spirited driving. Im pretty light on brakes and have never had something like this before. No one has touched my brakes yet from factory. Is this normal?

Its on both the passenger and driver side rotors, the rotors look completely fine on the outside.

I certainly don't have a new X but mine at 65k has just a lip, nothing like that. I've heard is stupid simple to swap pads. So I would take them off and inspect for debris that would cause this.

That first picture looks abnormal to me. I can't really tell about the second one. I'd take the car to the dealer and let them inspect them. Seems like something got installed incorrectly at the factory. Perhaps the shim stack was wrong. If they try to say these are a wear item, fight for warranty because that is abnormal wear. If they won't warranty them get some centric blanks and new pads and put them back together correctly and move on.

x2 for incorrect assembly.

It looks like the metal shield is touching the rotor - is that true?

Work with dealership - they generally don't cover wear items - but may share the cost of the new rotors...

Thats exactly what i was thinking, and x2 on the centric blanks, i had them on my eclipse and they were fantastic quality. I paired them with Hawk HPS Ceramic street pads. Thanks for your input!

It doesnt look like the shield has touched the rotor, and i cant imagine anything getting stuck up in there long enough to cause such gouges on the rotor, and on both rotors at that...

see post #5 above.

if they're not down to the rivets you had debris caught between the rotors and pads.

My rotors have very faint lines on them but nothing like that.. I would look for pad abnormalities and improper assembly.

I agree with the above, but would still be surprised because it would have been darned noisy. In fact, I can't imagine grinding grooves like that in rotors - by any means - without noticing it as it happened.

ps. apologies for my lack of political correctness if you happen to be deaf ... oh, wait ... let me try that again: I'M SORRY IF YOU'RE DEAF

I've had pea gravel in every place imaginable from going off track and there was no unusual sound whatsoever. I guess it all depends on what kind of debris you get in there.

Same thing happened on my Lancer GTS when I had it except on the outside of the rotors. Ended up needing new rotors pads and calipers. Calipers were the cause of the problem. Dealer didn't do anything since I had 30k miles on the car even though these were still the original brakes that came on the car and still had 75% life in them.
