Thats been my mentality. I install everything I possibly can, makes you feel good and you have 100% knowledge/confidence how something was done and correctly done.

My friend is a mechanic, has every tool imaginable and has helped me out but I'm debating getting some stuff for myself (jack, tools, etc) because I'm so **** about everything

At the end of the day, NO ONE will treat your car as good as you will..but doing it with a friend is perfect your seeing the whole process through. The problem with having a shop install everything and never getting your hands dirty is you probably wont have any idea what to look for when/if something goes wrong or sounds weird etc etc. doing your own installs means you know how it was done and can back track it all. Always good to learn something new.
