Prolonging the life of my SST.

Got my 2015 WW MR on April 9th. It is creeping up to 1,500 miles and so far it has been a fantastic experience.

From what I have learned by reading around these forums I aim to do and/or have been doing but I just need some clarification if there is anything else I can or should be doing to prolong the life of my SST.

1. I will be changing the SST fluid and filter between 1,500 and 3,000 miles depending on time and finances but it will get done. Every 20,000 miles after that.

2. I drive in S-Sport manual only and after a cold start I keep RPMs low and give it 5-10 mins to warm up before getting spirited.

3. I have just started shifting the car to neutral when it is stopped. When coasting to a red light I throw it in neutral and coast before coming to a stop. Is this recommended or should I just put it into neutral once the car has come to a full stop.

4. I have not launched the car yet and don't intend to for some time.

So is there anything else I should do or stop doing? Thanks!

Change asap, within 500 miles imo. 30k after that unless you track it hard.

You can put it in neutral whenever.

I launched it once, felt a bit rough, didn't bother again <shrug>

Outside of that you could invest in a dodson oil cooler (kozmic motorsports sells them). It is supposed to help prolong your clutch life and fluid. (not 100% necessary, but something to consider if you start modifying down the road)

Outside of that you've done great research I think you are on your way to a trouble free SST ownership experience lol.

I don't think you have to baby your SST.

Treat it like you would any other transmission, I don't baby mine and it's super... I have used launch control heaps and changed the fluid once and it shifts like it did when I first bought it.

keep the fluid fresh and that's all you need. Try to floor it only in s-sport, and never run hard on a cold transmission.

If you get a tune, make sure they adjust your ramp tables. That's it.

What you plan to do to your car is what determines what and when the sst needs attention. If you 1/4 mile race (or any racing) then make sure you do early fluid changes. If you autocross or road/race then you will need to upgrade cooling (even with stock tq). Early 1st fluid change is good. Everyone has an opinion and I waited until 28kmi and had maybe ten launches in that time. I think I should have done that 1st one maybe at 10kmi. I put a 5.2" spal fan with thermostat control on the sst cooler (on 180f off 165f) = 100 bucks for added assurance as summer heats up. Last thing is to limit torque when modding the car on the stock clutches. I picked 300tq at the wheels and have stuck with that. I am on my way to around 400hp at the wheels with that torque limit. Neutral habbit is good because it is just lightly dragging the clutches the whole time.

Driving around normally in S-Sport is not a good idea. You might think it saving your clutches but you're actually causing more strain on other drive line components.

Wet clutches are designed to slip and not wear. Ever take a part a motorcycle? Same thing.

Don't agree after speaking with best SST specialist in the nation. This isn't to strictly save clutches, but to also prolong the life of the transmission overall.
