Quick question about Canards

I don't deny that canards will create some downforce (thought very limited) at high speeds due to their design. But I swear there was an amazing article posted on here or one of the other evo forums discussing how canards are used to control airflow in order to increase the effectiveness of other body panels, and that on a proper true race car application that that is the purpose of canards (and not to generate downforce directly).
As for bolts vs rivets, I think the bolts look fine:

mostly. the splitter handles most of the front downforce. the canards are often used to direct air over/around wheels, down the car towards the wing, etc. usually used to "shape" the air, more than downforce, though they would work if you only needed a bit, i suppose.
i agree with one of the post above: canards/no splitter = not too functional and probably added for looks.

Anyway.. they want $120 if they just use the blind rivets and drill it in their and that's it. They want $240 if they have to remove the bumper and drill in the blind rivets and put a washer behind it too hold it in place.
So my question... for APPEARANCE (not sure if it matters) is it worth it too remove the bumper and install the washer behind the rivets? Or should i just go with the blind rivets itself? Will it fall off easily?
Thank You.

rivets flare out when the ball is pulled towards the surface. the amount and shape kinda varies from rivet to rivet. you can try to just put them right in. if one comes loose, you will see and can redo it. the only downside is it may make the hole mis-shaped from pulling through so the next one may not work at all, without going to a larger one.
taking the bumper off isn't too hard and may save you a lot of trouble in the long run. putting washers on the back side will prevent it from pulling through.
maybe you can mark where you want them with tape, take the bumper off, then have the shop do it? of course, if you go through the trouble of doing that, then you may as well do the rivets yourself. i got a rivet gun and box of rivets from Harbor Freight for about $20.
you drill the hole, put the rivet in the hole, hold the canard against the bumper and squeeze the handle. done. it's really, really easy. on a scale of 1-10, i'd say about a 2 or 3. you should be able to do all this, with washers, while only having to move the fender liner out of the way?
unless you are worried about then not being aligned right.

I wouldn't bother with the washers imo I had rivets holding some on my splitter on my s2k and took it on track all the time with no problems. I just combined it with 3m double sided tape for added holding power. The only time I had a problem is when I went off track and the ground helped remove them off my bumper...along with some of the bumper..

The relationship of wing, to speed, to size of vehicle for which the wing is providing down force is such that the larger surface area of a wing, the less speed is required to produce downforce. S, given its size, a canard needs quite a bit of speed to produce a measurable affect for an Evo.
