2014-2015 Recall

If it hasn't been posted yet.

Report Receipt Date: AUG 31, 2015

NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V546000

Component(s): FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE , PARKING BRAKE

All Products Associated with this Recall expand
Details close

2 Associated Documents expand

Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.

SUMMARY:
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Lancer Evolution vehicles manufactured January 31, 2014, to September 5, 2014, and 2014-2015 Lancer Ralliart vehicles manufactured February 3, 2014, to September 5, 2014. The affected turbocharged vehicles have a right parking brake cable that may contact the fuel tank, wearing away the tank's protective coating.

CONSEQUENCE:
Without the protective coating, the fuel tank may rust and leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

REMEDY:
Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the right parking brake cable, and inspect the fuel tank, free of charge. If the fuel tank's exterior coating shows signs of damage from abrasive contact with the right parking brake cable, the fuel tank will also be replaced, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-15-009.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

I used this website https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/ to check my VIN.

Using your website my 2014 Evo doesn't have any recalls. But, shouldn't it say at least 1 for the ACD pump?

Also, for this new recall do you even think it is updated so quickly yet? I dont.

ACD pump isn't a recall. It was extended from 3 year to 10 year warranty. On the website the recall was reported on August 31. Also, if your car does not show a recall it could be that your 2014 was produced late 2013? Or after September 5? I bought my car in October of last year so I'm pretty sure its affected within their dates of cars affected January 31, 2014, to September 5, 2014.

Seen this today at the Mitsubishi dealer, while picking up some anti-freeze. If it isn't posted in the RA section, might want to do that as well, since it affects the RA as well. Least it's under 2k cars affected, not like the 11 million VW

What if you have the MR and don't use Parking brake?
Do you still need to bring it in to get it fixed?
Wonder if the parking brake cable touches the fuel tank even if you don't use the parking brake, but just putting in park.

I would still take It in.
Has anyone got this done yet? It says it takes 1.5 hours not sure how true this is. And is this a fairly simple job? I'm debating if I should drive out 2 hours to a better dealership because I do not trust the one in my town.

I got mine done last week. I had my car back the same day. The 1.5 hour estimate is spot on it didn't take long at all.

Just received my letter in the mail. Does it matter if you are modified? Have all bolt ons and a tune with none of the stock parts to put on before bringing it...

No it doesn't matter at all. Any recalls have to be met by law even if you aren't in warranty.
