Finally pulled the trigger on an Evo X

I brought home this sweet little lady in red this week. 2008 Evo with only 38K miles on it. There was a K&N intake on it and Ultimate Racing exhaust on it. I need to confirm if there is anything else that has been added like down pipe or anything else. I'm new to these cars and their upgrades.

It drives amazingly and can't wait to get to know it better. It's shifts are so crisp, I need to relearn shifting with this car. My other manual is so different (Z3) and I still can't get used to reverse..

The check engine light comes on for the cat, so I'm guessing it may have a high flow cat or something. I looked underneath and it's not stock. I already bought anti foulers for it. I've had to do this on many BMW's.

I'm gonna need a new rear bumper and possibly the front bumper due to small holes and scuffs that will drive me nuts. Can anyone tell me where I can get quality body kits?

Trick for reverse is put it in first then reverse I think (might be third) but the reverse gear in these cars is a combination of first and third so if you have trouble going into reverse I believe that's the easiest solution. Enjoy

The car goes into reverse just fine. It's mostly because all German manuals have reverse next to first gear, whereas the rest of the world has it on the opposite side as 5th. So I have to retrain my brain..I'm getting there

Couple things to be aware of -

Prior to 2011 EVO's there was an issue with the timing chain possibly stretching over time and causing issues. Would replace that sooner rather than later.

Check your fuel relays and ensure they are the latest ones (lot of info to search on that to figure it out)

Your car has a few more modifications than just an intake and exhaust from what you can see of the engine shots. Though based on the mileage and care it probably has a good tune for it, wouldn't hurt to find out if your tune is safe for your car from a reputable EVO tuner.

Enjoy great color

Gotcha, I'll look into that then.

The more I look at the engine bay the more I was wondering if it had more then just an intake. Can you tell what else has been done from the pics? I can take more if needed. Like I mentioned before, I am new to these cars completely. Also, there are no tuners around me. Atlanta is the closest and that's at least 3 1/2 hrs away. I've reached out to an E-tuner. I think this might be the best I can get.

Yeah an E-Tuner would be a good option there are a lot of great ones out there. Wtftuned is a good one, baccauchi, 5150 Racing, Kozmic Motorports (I think they do etunes I've used them personally because they are in my town)

From the look of it you have an aftermarket upper intercooler pipe (big red thing down the middle). Hard to see other things without more detailed pictures, however you are probably tuned for what you have based on the condition and mileage. Either way the tuner will need pictures to assess what mods you have before they do anything as well, so more detailed pictures would help.

Try and get top down shots in all four corners of the engine bay so people can see down in there and assess.

Awesome! Thanks for the added tuner names.

I'll work on getting those pics ready. I'll post them on here too so others can chime in. I see from online stores and other sites that there is a lower intercooler pipe as well? I may have to inspect this as well.

Yea, I think it must be safe to say that it's been tuned with these parts on since it seems to run great. I need to get the anti fouler installed so I can make sure.

A little over 3 years now. Picked it up with about 42k miles on it.

Like posted above, be sure to monitor the car/boost. Car came with similar mods when I picked up mine. Noticed it was over boosting, especially in cool/cold weather.

I hope to keep mine as long as that. I usually go through cars every 1 1/2 years... This one has really low miles so I really hope to keep it. There's enough to do to them to keep me from getting bored.

Are you saying I should get guages? I'm really not even sure where the boost should be..Noobie here

I crawled under the car today to install the non foulers for the O2 sensor. It looked pretty clean. I noticed the 3" custom exhaust going all the way to the turbo. It still looks like a Cat, but I stuck my flash light in there and didn't really see anything inside. Is this a test pipe or something like that? Here is a pic..

Can anyone confirm what this part is? It's pretty nicely welded together and the metal is a blueish color that is different from the flange on what seems to be the cat down to the exhaust tips
